Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tree control node image problem

    I have read and worked on this for hours. Can't get it, need help, please.
    I am trying to make a tree control dialog for a specific group of folders.
    Folders are named by a company name. I am running into an issue when the company name begins with a number.
    See example code below. Is there a different way to assign the node image other than the {I=@images%} directive?

    Code:
    dim dlg_list as C=""
    dim vL1 as C
    dim vL2 as C
    dim vL1w as C
    dim vL2w as C
    vL1=<<%r%
    Suppliers
    Vendors
    Retailers
    %r%

    vL2=<<%t%
    Kent Manufacturing
    Old Fastner Supply
    LH Adhesive
    Comcast
    Uniband
    MolBelting
    Source One
    LI Printing
    Kroger
    Costco
    Walmart
    7 Eleven
    %t%

    for x1 = 1 to 3
    	vL1w=alltrim(word(vL1,x1,crlf()))

    	for x2 = 1 to 4
    		vL2w=alltrim(word(vL2,(x2*x1),crlf()))
    		dlg_list=dlg_list+"1+1"+vL1w+"^^1"+vL2w+crlf()
    	next
    next

    images = "$$folder"
    ui_dlg_box("Tree Control Images",<<%dlg%
    [%S=BLR;D="^^";I=@images%.120,26item_selected^<dlg_list!menuitem_change];
    {lf};
    <Close>
    %dlg%,<<%code%
    if a_dlg_button="close"
    	ui_modeless_dlg_close("Tree Control Images")
    end if
    %code%)

    Re: Tree control node image problem

    Hi Mike,
    Is the actual data for the tree coming from a table by any chance? I am thinking that the '{Data=...}value to display' format might fix the problem since the image reference will be before that section.

    Otherwise Seven Eleven is good - or this:

    Code:
    dim dlg_list as C=""
    dim imgs as c
    dim vL1 as C
    dim vL2 as C
    dim vL1w as C
    dim vL2w as C
    imgs = <<%a%
    $$navigate.down
    $$navigate.next
    $$code.debug.line.current
    %a%
    vL1=<<%r%
    Suppliers
    Vendors
    Retailers
    %r%

    vL2=<<%t%
    Kent Manufacturing
    Old Fastner Supply
    LH Adhesive
    Comcast
    Uniband
    MolBelting
    Source One
    LI Printing
    Kroger
    Costco
    Walmart
    .7-Eleven
    %t%

    for x1 = 1 to 3
        vL1w=alltrim(word(vL1,x1,crlf()))

        for x2 = 1 to 4
            vL2w=alltrim(word(vL2,(x2*x1),crlf()))
            dlg_list=dlg_list+"2+1"+vL1w+"^^3"+vL2w+crlf()
        next
    next

    images = "$$folder"
    ui_dlg_box("Tree Control Images",<<%dlg%
    [%S=;D="^^";I=@imgs%.120,26item_selected^<dlg_list!menuitem_change];
    {lf};
    <Close>
    %dlg%,<<%code%
    if a_dlg_button="close"
        ui_modeless_dlg_close("Tree Control Images")
    end if
    if a_dlg_button = "menuitem_change" then
        a_dlg_button = ""
    end if
    %code%)

      Re: Tree control node image problem

      Hi,
      Sometimes the simple is hardest to find. I just discovered that when building the string for the tree, if a space is added between the image assignment and the node value, then if the node value begins with a numeric value, the space added between the image assignment and the node value does not confound the image assignment and the space is allocated to the node value. Then when parsing the components of the selected node, the space can be handled by trimming the space of that node value. I have a bit too much wine in me to present an example of that solution, will do in the morning.

      Later:

      Code:
      dim dlg_list as C=""
      dim vL1 as C
      dim vL2 as C
      dim vL1w as C
      dim vL2w as C

      dim v1out as C
      dim v2out as C

      vL1=<<%r%
      Suppliers
      Vendors
      Retailers
      %r%

      vL2=<<%t%

      	for x2 = 1 to 4
      		vL2w=alltrim(word(vL2,(x2*x1),crlf()))
      		dlg_list=dlg_list+"1+1 "+vL1w+"^^1 "+vL2w+crlf()    [COLOR="#FF0000"]'<<<< spaces added here[/COLOR]
      	next
      next

      images = "$$folder"
