What if for each foo in the list, you pad with spaces?

I was afraid you guys were going to tell me something like that.

I have code like this:

flag = conn.open("::Name::Test")
conn.PortableSQLEnabled = .f.
flag = conn.execute("CALL some_stored_procedure")
rs = conn.ResultSet
vList = rs.toString()
conn.close()
vList = stritran(vList,chr(9),"|")

I suppose there is a way that I can use stritran to right justify certain columns (in 5000 rows or whatever). I'll have to think about it.

Depending on the list contents you may need to use a monospaced font as well.

No, it's tab delimited, hence the last line in the code snippet above.

Actually, Stan, you're right. I forgot I would be padding, so I would need monospaced. Hhmm..I'm not liking this...

So this line kinda does it for me:

vList = *for_each(vLine, word(vLine,1,"|",2) + "|" + PadL(word(vLine, 3, "|"),10," ") + "|" + PadL(word(vLine, 4, "|"),10," ") + "|" + PadL(word(vLine, 5, "|"),10," ") + "|" + PadL(word(vLine, 6, "|"),10," "),vList)

Using Tahoma is not too bad. Not great, but not horrible either. Then I don't need to use monospaced.

Of course, in my case, the right aligned are numbers.

instead of the
vList = rs.toString() and then trying to right justify few fields in that string
why not construct it yourself, like
vList = ""
while rs.nextRow()
vList = vList + rs.data(1) + rs.data(2) + right_justify_this_field(rs.data(3)) + rs.data(4) + right_justify_this_field(rs.data(5))....rest of the fields + crlf()
end while

I think that would be much slower to render. Remember *for_each() is extremely fast.

Looks like something to test to see the performance.

Let us know what you find.

Might be even faster since it's newer code under it.
