Calculate number of months

Date2 - Date1 = number of days

How do I convert number of days to number of months?

e.g.
num_months/30?
num_months/31?
num_months/30.x?

In this case a monthly payment needs to be made.


If 60 days have passed, do I make 2 payments or 1 payment?

I guess this works for me:

vMonthDiff = Month(End_Date) - Month(Start_Date)

IF substr(CDATE(End_Date),7,2) > substr(CDATE(Start_Date),7,2)
	vMonths = vMonthDiff
Else
	vMonths = vMonthDiff - 1
End if

Okay, haste makes waste. This one takes into account two dates like:

Start_Date = {12/17/2015}
End_Date = {1/17/2015}

vMonthStart = Month(Start_Date)
vMonthEnd = Month(End_Date)

If vMonthEnd < vMonthStart
	vMonthEnd = vMonthEnd + 12
End if

vMonthDiff = vMonthEnd - vMonthStart

Select 
	Case vMonthDiff = 1 .AND. substr(CDATE(End_Date),7,2) = substr(CDATE(Start_Date),7,2)
		vMonths = vMonthDiff
	
	Case substr(CDATE(End_Date),7,2) > substr(CDATE(Start_Date),7,2)
		vMonths = vMonthDiff
	
	Case ELSE
		vMonths = vMonthDiff - 1
End Select

Actually it only handles one yer diff, but it would never ever go to two years so that works.

you might need to consider year, month and day before month difference is calculated.

That's a nice little function.

But if I put in 6/11/2016 & 8/11/2016 it gives me 1, not 2, which is what I need in my case.

monthDifference= ((y2-y1)*12) + (m2-m1) + (if (d2>d1,0,-1))
if you change this line to
monthDifference= ((y2-y1)*12) + (m2-m1) + (if (d2>=d1,0,-1))
it should work

?monthDifference({06/11/2016},{08/11/2016})
= 2

Now you are talking about real haste!
Perhaps you meant:
Start_Date = {12/17/2015}
End_Date = {1/17/2016}
At any rate, I remember a similar question in the past and remember posting a function to do that.
Might not be exactly what you want, depending on what you want:
How do you want to calculate a fraction of the month?
Just consider it a month?

30.4375 is the avg number of days in a month
365.25 / 12

The number of days to first payment has to be worked out for the interest to be correctd. So a 6 moth loan based on x apr and 45 days to first?
