Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Another Windows 10 upgrade problem

After having spent ages getting my Alpha 5 V11 working on Windows 10 earlier on in the year I have problems now that they have 'upgraded'. I have to send out various reports each week by email and now I try to do that I get the message 'Layout name:Bkngs llegadas n general@C:\a5v11\Laprima\bookings2016.dddlayout type:report'
So before I ruin all the work that the forum helped me with before, has anyone else had this problem and found a workaround please?
I have tried on two machines and I've tried via Adobe and html and plain text with the same message every time. I've also tried with a backup data file from a period when I know that all worked well.
I have read Michael Humby's post on this but I'm afraid it goes over my head technically so I wondered if there is just a way of rolling back to W 10 version of last week.
    Thanks in hope.

Re: Another Windows 10 upgrade problem

I hit that in July after the windows 10 version 1607 (aka Anniversary) update. See http://www.alphasoftware.com/alphafo...0-version-1607 and
    http://www.alphasoftware.com/alphafo...indows+upgrade
I rolled my windows 10 version back to Windows 10, version 1511. You can find instructions for that at https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-u...ersary-update/ I am not sure but I think you can only roll back a windows version for something like 10 days so do not wait too long.

Try taking the spaces out of the report name.

Either eliminate them or replace with an underscore.

Object names should start with a letter and contain only letters, numbers, or underscores.

Weird things have been known to happen when this rule is ignored.

Re: Another Windows 10 upgrade problem

        Thank you Irvin and Al.
I have tried all the options but can't roll back because it's actually more than the 10 days, I've been away and it wasn't last week but 2 weeks ago. I tried the underscores. The only thing that works is if I transfer it all to an old XP machine and it's fine on that. So no joy yet unless I buy a new machine with maybe W7.
Thanks for your efforts so far though.
        Trevor.

For whatever reason Microsoft has, they seem to want you to use its new features and resets back to its defaults with each upgrade: Cortana, Edge browser, PDF viewer, etc. I bought a 3rd party tool to help tweak the settings the way I want called Windows 10 Manager. When using the Control Panel settings, I noticed that often a change from the default does not "stick" - like when changing the browser to Firefox. I doubt the upgrade issue will cease, especially since you don't have an option anymore to skip any of them.
