Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    TSPlus remote connection

I've seen references to a product named TSPlus on this board.

I've gone to their WEB site and there is a lot of information .
Of the Alpha members using this product, can someone give me some insight as to how well this works?
Server size, CPU, memory, connections, etc....

Can one log in using just a WEB browser?
    Local printing is a must.
How many connections of A5V11 can it handle?
Is there just a one time cost to purchase the software?

Server size, CPU, memory, connections, etc....

I have clients running XEON processors 3.30 GHz with 32 to 64 gb and windows essentials . No CALS needed.
Client machine then becomes a thin client for Alpha and can be a thick client to do it's own thing if you need local apps for other reasons.

Can one log in using just a WEB browser? Yes - haven't done it.
Local printing is a must. Share the printer(s) and set the up on the server for as close to direct printing as possible.
How many connections of A5V11 can it handle? Very app and server dependant - 10 to 20
Is there just a one time cost to purchase the software? I never quote prices here- just a link to the site.
Removes many of the timing issues that come up in network environments. Especially if wireless and stretched to a weak wireless signal.

Does not fix application logic errors. ;)

      Re: TSPlus remote connection

I,ve used TSplus but not the web version. Basically it allows a single windows install to host multiple Remote Desktop session. If you don't use the web stuff it will package up single exe that will connect to your server. The exe has host name embedded the end user need only supply thier credentials. It can use AD credentials as well. For printing it has virtual printer that creates a PDF on the host server. The PDF is tranparently transferred to and opened locally on the remote side where it can be printed to any local printer. Even without the web stuff which cost more, I found it a great solution.

So does this product allow a desktop app to be installed on my local server which can then be accessed by any workstation on a local pc or mobile device without having to create a web app? And if that is so, do you still need a shadow copy on the workstation to use the runtime or just the runtime exe directly accessing the server files? I use GoToMyPC from home to access my work desktop and while I can do anything I need to, it is a bit slow and the resolution not so good (smaller) - but it does allow me to print at either location.

Use the runtime on the server.

Probably faster than gotomypc because it's a direct connection between the pc and server rather than a 3 way connection

Since all is on the server, a shadow doesn't add much - unless you are doing some fancy redirects that a shadow allows. Very rare and off the normal path for 99.9% of apps.

So the AA Runtime is installed AND run from the server and not from the local desktops?

Correct. You run as a window on the server and everything is local to the server.

                Robin,

If your company has a static IP address connection to the internet, another alternative is Microsoft's built in Remote Desktop Protocol. It's free and works very well. I use it every day.
Here is a link to how to set up a secure connection.
