Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Compatible Add-on, Add-in List

I'm starting this thread so we can know those add-on's/add-in's that are compatible in their current versions with Alpha Five Version 9

My CSDA Code Utility v2.68 and the soon to be released v2.69 seem to be compatible with Alpha Five Version 9 based upon initial testing.

    Bill, Cal?

A5Doc seems mostly OK at first blush. There is a problem in Operations I need to check.

I wonder if the instaler could offer to migrate A5Doc from v8. Just need to copy the A5v8\A5Doc folder and a5v8\control_panel\addins\a5doc.*.

Does this mean that there is a manual work-arround for this. The Install places the Calendar_Toolbox.Aex in the "addins_installed" folder, but it does not work in A5V9 Milinium

        Thanks

            Re: Compatible Add-on, Add-in List

The CSDA Code Utility version 2.68 and earlier have one problem with new installs of A5v9 (at least earlier versions of A5v9). In new installations, if no addin's of AEX libraries other than those from Alpha Software are already present (from other installs), A5v9 does not initially create the directory. This would be true of any other addins that were not updated for version 9.

The following is the recommended way to solve the problem until the next release of the CSDA Code Utility.

Installing on Alpha Five Version 9
A5V9 does not create the addins directory as a default and the install of the CSDA Code Utility does not automatically create it in version 2.68 and earlier.

            Start Alpha Five Version 9 and go to the Control Panel. On the Toolbar above, Press the "Interactive Window" button. In the Code Editor's Interactive Window, insert the following code;
            ?dir_create_recurse(a5_getaddinsinstalledfolder("user")+chr(92))
Place the cursor at the end of the that lne and press "Enter" key. If the line works correctly, the next line
            = .T.
should be returned. Now install or reinstall the CSDA Code Utility and the install process should complete without errors.

Netmailer does actually work, but you need to reinstall it after downloading a new copy of the installer using the original download link in your confirmation email when you placed the order.

I don't seem to be able to use the Aims group format I tried to reinstall but I still get an error when trying to use it.

                > Script: TEMPLATE line: 1
                > Function is not recognized
I did what Cal suggested before and it worked in v8. but version 9 it doesn't even show as a addin at all.

Go to Alpha's Control Panel and click Tools in the menu bar. Then click Addin Manager and uncheck one of the addins. Close the Addin Manager then immediately open it again and re-check the addin you previously unchecked then close the Addin Manager again. This should force Alpha to rebuild the addins file and you should be able to run the function.
Anyone have any Idea's I tried to go to Cal's site today 95/19/08 at noon. But it seems to be down.

                    Re: Compatible Add-on, Add-in List

As far as I can tell, all my addons should work in v9. However, there seem to be some A5 issues with getting them set up to work. The issues have been reported and I will update my install files once the issues are resolved or I find out what needs to be done.

Right now I'm very confused by the various folder locations (which are not the same as they were in A5v8) and the fact that one of them doesn't seem to work at all - or maybe it just isn't supposed to work the way it did in v8. Until this is all resolved, I hesitate to make any recommendations. My guess is that you might be able to move the aex files to <A5 exe folder>\Addins_installed and control panel addins (if applicable) to <A5 exe folder>\Control_Panel_Addins. However, I'm not even sure that this location will work for the control panel addins.

After putting the addins in that folder, I recommend finding the Addin_Library.list file and deleting it. This will force A5 to rebuild its internal Addin_library.aex file. The default location for that .list file should be:
                    C:\Documents and Settings\Cal\Application Data\Alpha Software\Alpha Five Version 9\Installations\CProgramFilesa5v9
However, if you did not install A5 to the default location, that last folder name will be different. ( Think "remspecial(a5.Get_Exe_Path())" )

                      Re: Compatible Add-on, Add-in List

The latest patch of Alpha Five V9 Build1479_3182 dated May 28th, 2008 has not repaired the issue with AEX's not being found.

Until this is addressed, the solution is to move your addins or other 3rd party supplied AEX's to the folder named addins_installed in the Alpha EXE directory, which is typically the folder
                      C:\Program Files\a5v9\addins_installed
Doing this will require UAC being off or admin access on Vista based computers.

                          Re: Compatible Add-on, Add-in List

To those having issues with installing the CSDA Code Utility version 2.68 under Alpha Five Version 9, or Alpha Five Version 9 RunTime, I have just posted a new install routine that automatically compensates for the differences in operations between the various patch releases of Alpha Five Version 9.

There are no new code changes to the operational code for this release (which is still version 2.68), just the install routines.

In using the CSDA Code Utility version 2.68 with some patch releases of Alpha Five Version 9, there is an error message that pops up each time a sub menu rolldown/up button (the small blue arrows) are changed. These can be ignored and will cause no other problems.

To download the update with the new install routines, run the Update Program button from the CSDA Code Utility's Help (?) button, or visit the website.
