Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    System background color

Is it possible to change the default system background color from the new light blue in V9 to the system gray that was used in earlier versions?

My users unanimously dislike the new light blue color and complain that there is not enough contrast between the forms and the background and it makes it more difficult for them to concentrate on the forms. Some even complain that it makes them dizzy.

    Thanks

    Tim:
Are you talking about the background of a form? If so, you can right click on the form in an empty space, then go to the "Backdrop" tab and make changes within. You can also create a custom stylesheet.

        Tim,

        See the attached screen shot.

        This is version 9.

Don't know how Alpha changes it in Alpha Sports though.

Dave, It's hard to tell, but your image appears to be a maximized form. If that's so, then it would be obscuring the background that Tim is referring to.

This is strange - It's not application specific - the background is blue when Alpha5 starts up .

Somehow it must be system dependent?

                  Re: System background color

I just installed it on a different machine using Vista instead of XP and get the same results.

                  Maybe it's a build issue?

                  I am installing build 1369-3159.

                  Thanks

I was using the older version, but now I just upgraded to 1369-3159. It still is the same as the images I posted.

                      Re: System background color

This is a theme issue. There are 5 themes included with Alpha 5: Office Blue, Office Silver, Office Olive, XP, and Classic. In View->Settings->System->Preferences, there is a setting called Alpha Five Theme. By default it is set to Auto - which automatically selects the theme dependent on system settings. In XP it will try to select one of the office themes based on the Display Properties -> Appearance -> Color Scheme. You can set the theme to one of the specific Alpha themes by going to View->Settings->System->Preferences, selecting a theme, and restarting Alpha Five. If you want a modern look, but with all system colors, try XP. @Peter.Greulich, you are getting the Classic Theme, as you have your system theme set to classic.

this is close to my topic, so..........

                          Eavan:
where does A5 store the file that contains all the 'preferences' that can be reset????

I have made some extensive changes to the code editor color scheme and I cannot find the file that I saved.

I want to retrieve the file and copy it to my A5 on my laptop.

I have looked for the file under "*.a5t", but nothing shows up.
I can find the file if I try to "load" it, so I know it's there.

                          Thanx in advance

                            Re: System background color

Go to the view->settings tab for code system colors, do a save as, then go to the path returned from this XBasic function:

                            a5_getapplicationdatafolder()

It will be in that folder with as a "*.a5t" file. Copy this over to the folder returned from the above function when run on your laptop, and you should be able to load it.

                              Eavan --
                              nice code.....
does not work on my computer
tried putting it into a script - no response is displayed
tried putting it into the IW - same result....

I know the files are there cuz I can load them.

Windows XP Search Engine cannot find the *.a5t files containing
                              the color preferences.

The search does show several 'Themes.a5t' from earlier versions
of Alpha Five but not from V9.

                              I'm confused (as usual)
