Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Update confusion

Each time I start alpha 5 v9 it tells me
You do not have the most recent release of Alpha Five.
Click here to download it now.
So I click on the update link and the page it shows me is my current release. I have only downloaded 1 patch since it's release. I have heard there was other patches but everytime I start alpha 5 it shows me the same file when I ask for it to check for updates at the startup screen. Is this just happening to me. Today I went to the help drop down menu and asked to check updates and a small dialog box said the current update file was Build 1441-3175 — 22-Apr-2008 yet when I click on the download update link the page that open still shows it is build 1396-3165. I'm confused where is build 1441_3175?

Alpha Five Platinum Edition (Version 9) Updates
The current Alpha Five Version 9 build is 1396_3165 (released on 30 MAR 2008 08:02 PM).

    Re: Update confusion

    Mark,

Are you running the installer for the update you download? The steps are to, 1st download the patch, next close alpha, and most importantly run the executable you downloaded. The update page does contin the proper patches, but does have the wrong info regarding the current version at the top of the page. The release noted have been updated and are correct.

      Re: Update confusion

Mark, I think you're seeing different builds here because the latest patch you've installed was the beta. Suggest you relax and wait for the next official patch release. The beta is not an official patch release. I'm thinking the build numbers and the various "update notifications" will get straightened out when the next official patch release occurs.

        Re: Update confusion

The latest Patch, officially released yesterday (not beta) is 1441-3175.

The update page does not reflect the proper build number, but the release notes do.

        Alpha Five Version (Registered): 9
        Build: 1441
        Addins: 3175
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

            Re: Update confusion

I actually did not even read the version info till I saw the post. I usually go on blind faith, and hope for the best. Since it is simple to revert to a previous version, it really has no downside.

PS some great, major improvments with the performace of large MySQL tables
