Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Code to Lookup Directions on Mapquest?

I did a search but found no answers.

We have a service department that I have written a basic application for. When on a customers record, I would like to create a button that would go to the mapquest site and plug our address and zipcode as the starting point and the current fields address and zipcode as the destination and then bring up the driving directions and map.

Does anyone have code written that would do this that they might be willing to share?

    Thanks!

Re: Code to Lookup Directions on Mapquest?

      Mike,
Those are some pretty old posts. I pasted this into my browser and it took me to mapquest and did the search:

      Code:
      http://www.mapquest.com/maps/11348+monte+vista+drive+whittier+ca+90601/1745+chapin+rd+montebello+ca+90640/
I don't see any quotes in this string, so I am thinking the variables must be converted so the string itself is passed as above. If you add quotes it doesn't work.

Also why does the "&amp" appear in the html code the other posters were using? Makes using such scripts confusing!

        Hi Robin,
I guess my point was twofold---that yes it can be done as others have done it and using similar approaches to even these old threads could be used to do it....and also that I just did a very cursory search and came up with possibilites--I do remember a more recent thread, I think within the last year, that did similar with either Yahoo or Google ( :) cannot remember which right now!! ).

The &amp was a formatting problem I believe and yes they have to be watched for. Unsure now exactly what caused them (but could do a search I guess!! LOL )

LATER: And could not find anything regarding &Amp...guess most here knew I had to do the search cause that's what I do! :)

why don't you just use the built-in supercontrol in v9?

the WebContent supercontrol probably does what you want. it has a built-in template for mapquest.

I will go back to my own forum now where super controls were still a thing of the future...

Thanks guys, I was unaware of the WebContent supercontrol function. I made my own Mapqueat template using this and it works perfect. Took all of 10 minutes. It's easy when you know the process!

                      glad you figured this out.

the WebContent supercontrol eliminates a lot of manual coding. for example, it automatically takes care of refreshing the web contents whenever one of the the binding fields change or when you navigate to a new record.

the supercontrols are a very powerful addition to v9. but most importantly, they provide a very nice framework for adding more control types in the future.

While were on it how do I send the cancel parameter back on this event.

                        HTML Code:
                        function newwindow2 as v (ppDisp as OLE::shell.explorer.2::IWebBrowser,Cancel as L)
                        '	ui_msg_box("Congrats","New Window")
                        end function
I can see it fire but I want to cancel the navagation.

urlencode() does what you were looking for, I believe

No urlencode() won't work. Appreciate the thought. The cancel parameter needs to be passed back to the browser.
