Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    View mode discrepancies

I've attached images here - so hopefully all will be clear.

I have a very simple login form. The form is displayed differently, apparently depending on how it is placed into view mode. Images are as follows:

1 - This is the "login" form entry in my control panel; notice it has been selected.

2 - I then switch the form into view mode from the control panel View icon.

3 - The result has a line from top to bottom; the window itself is wider than it should be; and until you click (focus) on the form, the small 1/8" space to the right of the line is standard white (not the blue you see here, as the form had received focus at that time).

I then put the form into design mode.

4 - I then switch the form into view mode from the main A5 toolbar, just below the File menu entry.

5 - The result is as expected and desired.

The is also improperly displayed (as in step #3) when running this from the RunTime (after creating installation package and installing on fresh machine).

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug?

    Re: View mode discrepancies

I don't know if this answers your question, but if you select a form in the control panel and go straight to Design mode, the window opens up using a default size for the form designer (which has nothing to do with the window size defined in the form).

If you then switch from design mode, to run mode, the window size is not changed - so you are viewing the form in runmode (but its window size properties are still being ignored).

in other words, the form's widow size and position properties are only honored if the form is opened in runmode from the control panel.

there are not honored when you switch the form from design mode to run mode.

      Re: View mode discrepancies

      I have figured this out.

When my Exit button is set rather close to the right edge (even though not touching, as in the examples) of the form, the form will display "clipped" on the left edge (as in the example) by around 1/8" - but depending on the sequence used to throw it into run/view mode, as explained. And the result is a vertical line and gap on the right by the same amount. This also occurs when setting Database Properties to display the login form upon open of database - which I guess would be properly called "RUN" mode? If you examine the attached images closely, you'll see that the objects are shifted slightly to the left in the image showing the vertical line. The entire form is thus shifted to the left within the viewing window. This is easily seen by opening image#3 in your browser, then open #5 in a second tab and flip back and forth. While the window remains stationary in all respects, the contents shift.

If I move the Exit button just a little farther away from the edge all behavior is normal.

While I understand that form properties, ie: height, width may or not be honored depending on design/view mode, it seems undesirable to see the shift left and resulting clipping that I am seeing (almost a sort of negative anchor effect, maybe?)

In any event, I moved my Exit box to the left by just one grid and all is now well.
