Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Form not parsing

I am a very new user learning here so please be patient. I have an Order form that allows an Order qty and gets a post from an input form to allow daily mfg qty on a part. I have created an open shop order report to show me what is still open and how many have been made against the order. I have an operation that queries for orders that the Total qty is less than the order qty. When I run this report, it does not eliminate the completed orders but for some reason it is opening a default browse behind the report that does eliminate completed orders. Why is this browes opening up? What am I doing wrong?

I have another report that works just fine that does the same function for open sales orders.

I don't think anybody here is going to be able to answer your question with the available info. Any chance you can post the app, or a sample of it, that someone can run to see what's happening?

Thanks for your reply. I finally re-created my report in a different way using a filter built into the report instead of as an operation. The strange thing is that I had another report working from a different table done the same exact way and it works fine.

        Tommy,
First off, welcome to the forums. The first question of a new person is usually the hardest as being new it is not known what type of info is wanted.

I think the "offending" operation had a setting difference and was not therefore identical---An operation can be made to run silently... it can also show a result default browse that the operation's parameters/query/whatever it did for the user to see the results. You can check this by right clicking on the operation, choose Run Genie, press the Next button, and see if the "Suppress confirmation messages when Operation is run?" check box is unchecked or checked. By your description this would be my guess. Cal is right, of course, that to be sure a sample would have had to be given...too late maybe this time but be ready to do so when posting again --most times even if a question can be answered without such a sample the amount of time to do so is many times greater than if one was provided.
