Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Ordering Design time objects and controls

This is mainly for the Alpha 5 Programming team.

Maybe there is a setting somewhere I dont know about.
But I cannot understand why anyone would need it!!

PROBLEM: If you use object explorer, or script genie and are trying to select objects or properties etc.

They are organized randomly as far as I can tell.

MY questions: Has any of the programmers heard of this thing called Alphabetical order??

I have to scroll up and down the list, looking for a control.
HMMM. I know name_lbl should be here somewhere.

OH down below water_drank , wow makes sense!

If there is a setting to make these alphabetic let me know!
also let me know why in the world its not defaulted to alpha!

    If not.... COME ON!!!
    such a simple thing
    COME ON!

    Easy..
Just highlight the first object in the list.
Type the first letter of the name of the object.
    It will jumb there.

    P.S.
I am not part of the programming team.

      Cool that helps!

It still should be in order!

      but this helps a lot
      thanks!

          Coop,

You may get more positive responses if you tone down the sarcasm a touch. If you have suggestions to make the product better, post them in the Features wishlist forum.

It seems that many of your recent posts contain some bitching and moaning about something. Most people are here to help, but when the bitching starts and a sense of entitlement comes across I (and others) move on quickly.

I am not sure if this is you just trying to be funny, but it does not come across that way.

            Nope!
Maybe people are missing the part I am looking at.

I am looking at the script genie!

start a script, action scripting is easiest.

            start a new action
pick and action that has to do with objects and properties

like set properties of an object

Now when you go to select the object its all mixed up
same with properties of the object.

Re: Ordering Design time objects and controls

I believe These are sorted in the order you add them to the layout, so the last one you add will always be at the bottom.

Maybe someone will complain if they are sorted alphabetically!
Nonetheless, you could jumb to anyone by typing the first letter.

thats what I thought, at first...
                but it aint so!

I added some, they randomly went into the list

PLUS the properties are out of order also
                and we dont add properties
they are part of the programming lanquage

hopefully alpha five programmers will find and fix this

                  Cooper,
                  object explorer, or script genie
The object explorer and Action Script Genie are both very organized here in version 8...categorized and then alphabetized within the categories. Doubt if it changed in version 9.

In regard to you new statement (obviously not a question...are you just venting ??), yes they are not alphabetical but are in order of creation I believe. And it would be nice to have them categorized and alphabetized as the other two (AS and OE) are, if for no other reason, to make it consistant....but this would be a feature to be asked for in the Wishlist forum as pointed out by Bill.

                  Along with what Bill said
when the bitching starts and a sense of entitlement comes across I (and others) move on quickly.
I am one who usually does too...but am hoping that your comments are just misplaced. If not then I too will be more consistant and will simply "move on quickly" in regards to future posts!! :)
                  Mike

Re: Ordering Design time objects and controls

I had originally asked if there was a way to make them alphabetic that I don't know of????

The line between asking and bitching is very very small.

I find when I ask a simple question, like why are the object in the genie not alphabetical... I have to respond back 15 times, with details.

If I give exhausting details, then I must be bitching!

I admit this one was pretty sarcastic
                      abject apology... honest!

but none of my other post were or could be construed to be bitching in any way.

VERY VERY cool! What did you use to screen capture?
                          that was fast!

I see yours is last made, on bottom!
Mine is now, but was not when I initially posted

But what really tossed me is the properties, see screen capture
but as others say, they are in categories. I dont yet understand the categories
but I bet I will get used to them

There is no rhym or reason for the way properties are sorted, but even if they were sorted alphabetically doubt if that will help unless you memorize each and every property and know right off which one to look for.

                              Your probably right.
Plus they are not all there anyway.
like the property for the bitmap on a button.

you can change it in xbasic
but the scripting genies do not have it!

                              You cannot have everything

                              Thanks for the assistance!

PS... what did you use to capture your screen?
