Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

ALPHA 5 Starting up As RUN ENGINE

I just installed Alpha 5 Plat on my laptop. I then installed Alpha 5 Run Engine. Now when I run A5 Plat, the Run Engine starts.

I have uninstalled completely the Run Engine. I completely uninstalled A5 Plat. I then re installed A5 Plat, but it still comes up as the Run Engine. The Run Engine is no longer installed!!!

I completely deleted the install folders. I tried running from the folder, not the shortcut. Rebooted...No help. I am still starting up the run engine.

    HELP!!!

I was hoping not to play with RegEdit. Don't get me wrong, I have used it for years with no ramifications so far, but this is a new install of Vista SP1 and I didn't want to, but I will.

      Thanx

Well I deleted all references to the Alpha Directory I installed both A5 Plat & the Run Engine. I then installed V9 again and I still start up the Run Engine. I guess I will have to call Tech Support tomorrow during business hours. This will be the first time I am calling them in over 5 years of using the Windows products.

the run engine and platinum are the same. the only thing that turns the code into a platinum edition or into a run engine is the license number.

i would suggest that you just start over.

go to the registry and simply delete the registry keys:

          HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 9.0

and the registry key for the run engine which you will also see there

          then reinstall the products.

            Selwyn,

Thanks....When I was copying licenses to my Serials excel spreadsheet I somehow copied the Run Engine License # to the Alpha 5 Plat cell.

Instead of reinstalling, I just deleted the registry entries. When I start V9 again it asked for the license #. When I put in the right license # ALL is well.

BTW, please check out my zipped copy of the help PDF. I used a product that keeps the hyperlinks within the help file and all of the links work.

http://www.411tech.org/program.htm . The link is on the bottom and the left of the page.

The small & large versions of the help file in PDF format is also available at:

            Thanks again...
