Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to open a form with embedded browse even if there is no records in the browse?

    Good day,

When calling a form that contains an embedded browse, the form will not open but rather informs me that there are no records in the browse. How can I change that behaviour to still open the form even if there are no records?

You see the button containing the logic to add a record sits on the form that will not open.

    Kind regards
    George

    hi george,

is the form based upon a set? and is it based upon a child table in the set?

if it is, it should still open even if there are no records in the browse.

maybe you have no parent record to open????

      further thoughts,

check to see what code you have on the 'oninit' event. i believe this can cause errors. i had this problem, moved the code from 'oninit' and the problem was solved.

        Richard,

I have attached the application. All the forms are based on the same set. When going from the division form to the end user form, that is when the error occurs.

I have sanitized and removed unrelated tables etc.

Would you mind checking it out with me?

        Regards
        George

George, can't open the database. Hit error message saying can't open the main menu (start up) form. -- tom

                Hi george,

i ammended the database in the folder PLM Test.

the problem you have is a similiar problem i had a few weeks ago. it is because you are trying to open a form which is a grandchild in a set.

i created another set with just division and end users. then i created another form 'fdivision' this form is based upon the new set.

go to your customers form, go to the divisions form and then select your division and click on end user button.

all you need now is a button to add records to the end user with a companion form. i believe there is a default form, but for appearance i always create my own form. this would be based just on the table and not on the set.

i always make 2 buttons next to my embedded browses. one to open a companion form to add a new record and one to open the form to view and edit the record (this is good if there is a lot of fields in the form)

i hope this helps and makes sense but let me know if your need more help.

The startup form should be frmCus.

George, if you hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys when opening the database you should be given the option to bypass the startup form. Once the password is entered you should land kerplunk in the control panel. From there you can change the statup form by Choosing File from top menu, then Database Properties.
