Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Is this possible?

    Hello folks,

I decided I'm taking the wrong approach when asking some of these questions. I really just want to know if this is possible in alpha.

    a. Allow my users to select a template report before entering the data in the form.

    b. select images that will go on the report.

    c. Generate it as a pdf and mail it out.

Thanks folks here is a little powerpoint image to help out.

        Good approach!!!

In case you wonder, one way to go about it would be to have a table with available reports, and depending on whether the same or different data would need entering when selecting report X, the name of the form to open when the respective report is selected.

You could use a table, but using
A5.REPORT_ENUM() might be a better route.

That would surely depend on whether you want to let them choose from ALL reports, or is ther ea parameter to exclude ones you want to hide?)

Yeah, that might be an issue. I suppose you could have a static variable composed of a crlf list of excluded reports linked to the form or some other place. Then compare the lists & subtract.

Although I do think the way the AlphaSports V9 samples do it is easiest - have a table specifically for reports you want the customer (or whoever) to see, that way you olnly need to update it if a new report gets made that needs making available to the customer, rather than whenever a report is added to the app that you don't want the customer to see in this context.

You're probably right. I just hate cluttering up my db w. tables for this & that (although I do).

That's the problem with many of these really useful functions and features - they work great if you are organised but sometimes that just isn't possible!

I'm working in vers 7 & 8 so have not seen those samples. How is the report table created and I assume updated? And what other info beside the Report Name do they contain?

Oops I remembered that wrong - there is no fixed list at all, the table I remembered was for the PDF preview supercontrol, not the report preview one!
