Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Real or Rumor???

I just had a client tell me that he heard that Microsoft was droping Vista. He has had a lot of problems using his computer with vista and said he was told by a tech support guy that MS was droping vista and pucshing XP again.

Anyone know if this is true?

I read few articles to that effect. I also read that there is a class action suit involving Vista.

It's a darn shame because I like Vista, a lot.

This is one of those prime example of how even the smartest people could do the dumbest things.

Incidentally, alpha had a little bit of that when introduced v9, but it seems that they re-adjusted the course and now steering in the right direction.

There is a lesson Microsoft (and alpha and many others) could learn from other industry giants like McDonald's and Burger King who know nothing about the difference between a bit from a byte but they got their bits and bytes pretty well together.

I don't know about Microsoft, but at work everyone who had Vista forced on them when buying a laptop etc, they dumped Vista and got XP Pro to install on their laptop/PC etc.

Although my personal vote would be to not drop XP Pro, I would'nt bet on them doing it. At least not unless Gates get reinvolved. It would be a loss of face for Microsoft, and especially for Balmer, who I find myself despising.

For a new user, or an individual and/or home user, once they learn how to turn off the UAC, and thus greatly defeat a lot lot of what's behind Vista, its no big deal. But for companies, its a really different matter.

For example: I have a client that has at least 10,000 desktops, not to mention all the printers, scanners, etc. And they have many many software programs that would not run under Vista, (one of them being mine,) and would have to be rewritten. And many of the devices would not have drivers available for Vista. Can you imagine what it would cost them to upgrade to Vista?

I understood that Microsoft was ending sales of XP starting June 1, 2008. Has that changed?

                  From Computerworld:

"According to Microsoft, June 30 is the last day it will permit retailers and OEMs to sell the nearly-seven-year-old operating system."

                  Must be true :)

I just bought a Dell laptop (Precision 390) and there was never a question between me and the sales rep, it came with XP Pro. I would never have accepted Vista.

                          Email received from Dell today.

"Dell offers you the choice that best fits your business. But act fast, because after June 18, Windows XP will no longer be offered on Dell laptops and desktops."

                            vista ;Noun
                            definition
1.A wide range of possibilities or future events.

                            In my case

a.Vista might one day support hardware thats already available on the market.
                            b. Vista might run programs without removing all the new security features.
                            c. Vista might become compatible with applications other than MS products.
                            d. Vista might become a Lepoard

"A lot might with a little fight!"

                            Asta la Vista baby!

Running Vista Home and Ultimate with no problems. Not found any problems running my programs so far. Meaning it took some tinkering on a few(incuding V7), but they work fine. There may be some with problems yet to surface. It is certainly no harder than running dos apps in win95 was or converting to winXP from win95, win98, etc. Did NOT like ME although it did work.

Why don't the hardware manufacturers make driver for their products. they had more warning than we did about Vista(least they used to).

                              .
