Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can anyone duplicate this lockup.

    Simple set up. Three tables. One event with code. One table with a lookup table set in field rules. One table as a child. One table as a lookup table.
    This locks my system up to the point I have to start the task manager to get out.

      Your zip file does not include and ADB file. But I created my own, added all your tables and sets, opened your form, did as you instructed on the form and nothing untoward happened. Seems to work as designed, though I am not sure what that is.

      For this test I used v9, build 1471-3180 on an XP Pro, SP2.

        Ray;

        Sorry about that. Attached is the whole thing. What mine does is this;
        A record in the first browse that has a lookup table defined in it's field rules.
        The second table has a cancel event in it's canarrive event that fires when the field in browse 1 is empty. If I open the lookup table, click the button and the drop down box appears, then click on the second browse without selecting from the lookup table the ui_box appears and I get a lockup.

          James, using your earlier upload and substituting my own ADB file I see the problem you're describing. I think you should submit a bug report, but include a complete copy of your database and step by step instructions to follow.

          An easy fix for you is to abandon the CanArrive event script altogether.

          Then, prevent focus from moving away from Browse2 if the form is change or enter mode and the Name field (column) is empty. Here's the script:

          Code:
          'CanDepart event script for Browse2 object
          mode = parentform.mode_get()
          if (mode = "CHANGE" .or. mode = "ENTER") .AND. parentform:browse2:name.text = "" then
              cancel()
          end if
          This works because displaying the drop down list changes the form's mode.

            I also see the problem now. When I opened your form there was already an "a" in the top field in the browse, so I did not get the problem when I merely clicked on the drop down. When I deleted the value and did as instructed I got the lock up.

              Tom, Ray;

              Thanks for the help. I did come up with another work around. The attached was simple a throw together. The actual form was quite a bit more complex with several browses. Some linked. All requiring a specific entry order.
              I did submit a report to the bug people awhile back. Was not in the latest patch. Maybe they did not get to it or could not duplicate. Sure they will before long. (Just wish they'd put my wish list item under the tree)

              Regards
