Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to import stylesheets

While in a form design mode, I clicked Stylesheets > Import > Browse to the .jpg file I want to import > Click Open > Click Import. The result,
Import Failed. Is the .jpg extension not allowed?

If go to the forms' properties, select Background and browse to the.jpg file, I can select it as the background. However, even if the .jpg is imbedded, when I use the app with A5v9RT, RT will not recognize it and loads the default color instead.

I thought perhaps if I can import the .jpg files to the folder where the stylesheets are kept, I could avoid that problem.

OK, How does one import a stylesheet?

    Thanks,

    Re: How to import stylesheets

Maybe I've misunderstood, but I think what you are after is firstly: set up the form the way you want it, complete with background .jpg, and save it. Then with that form open in design mode, do a Stylesheet / Create New. Give the new stylesheet whatever name you want, and save it.

You should then be able to do a Stylesheet / Apply to any form in design mode, and it should look the way you want. Save the form, and it should keep those settings thereafter.

I just fired up Runtime and loaded an app with forms set as above, and they look OK. (But I haven't tried changing the background ... got to go teach a class now ... will try later).

Yes, that worked. Opened a form in design mode; went into Properties, then backdrop; selected a .jpg, and saved it. Then saved this as a new stylesheet, which can be now used for other forms. I opened the form in runtime, and it displayed with the .jpg background.

The stylesheet part may not be relevant - if you've saved a form with a background, that form should display in the same way when you open it in runtime. If not, just a thought - have you got the latest patch applied to the runtime ? Or tried a reboot ?

        Re: How to import stylesheets

Close but no cigar. I am able to create a new stylesheet as you say but that's as far as it goes. When I create a new form and select the stylesheet I created from the stylesheet list, I get this error message:

        Script:overlay_a5_style_bmp Line 99
        Variable type mismatch

Apparently the stylesheets need to be in a .bmp format rather than the .jpg format.

The other issue I have is: it takes 45 seconds to save the form.

Too bad A5 doesn't convert .jpg to .bmp.........or does it?

        Thanks,

          Hi Ken,
Usually Alpha does do the conversion when selecting jpg but apparently not in this case so you could use this I suppose if needed...
http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...O_BITMAP().htm...thing is, how would you use this--choosing an image should be just that--if not supported and/or converted automatically by Alpha a user should not have the ability to even select it.

            Re: How to import stylesheets

            Thanks Mike,

I think it's the stylesheet that messes things up. If I select an Alpha supplied stylesheet, there is no problem. However, if I select a stylesheet that's Ive created, it takes 45 seconds to save the from everytime I click the save icone in form design. Additionally, If I create a new form and choose the stylesheet I created, the preview shows as all black and things go downhill from there. I do have the latest and greatest build and will try to convert it to a bitmap.

I'm wondering what the stylesheet import is supposed to import, a previously saved A5 stylesheet of a jpg file or........? So far, no one has indicated they been able to successfully perform a Stylesheet import.

            Thanks for the suggestion,

              Kenn,
I'm going to bump this thread again because the question has not been answered and I have had this question since v5.

Is everyone rebuilding their personal favorite stylesheet with every version of A5 that is rolled out??? If not, how are folks migrating their stylesheets. I wish someone/everyone would share their actions/experience with this aspect. Going through all the details of building a stylesheet is a fairly robust endeavor and a full copy/import would sure help, if only I/we knew how to accomplish this in the most efficient manner.

Good to know, thanks. But I still couldn't find the custom stylesheet I created named Mike3 that is listed in the stylesheet menu list to be able to copy/import to v9 application. But I did discover how to do this: Export then import.

within my v7, in design mode >stylesheet, select style, export. It is a txt file. Then from v9 design mode, > stylesheet, import the txt file. Easy if you know how.
