Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: SQL query - how do you use the result?

    OK OK OK

Pasive Link Tables work fine, but they are not a solution because It needs to UPDATE, to DELETE or to ADD records in the remote SQL Data Base.

    any suggest?

See post #4 above.... If a passive link table does fit your needs, use an active link table (it's designed to add, update, and delete in the SQL table.).....

thanks Al for taking time to this.

If you read my first post I reported that with Active Link I only get blank records in my forms.

        Do you have the solution?

What I saw in your first post is more than a simple active link table. It looks to me like you are using some code.

It's very difficult to diagnose from afar with so little to work on.

What type of SQL database are you tying to connect to? If you can't connect with an active link table, then I'd make a series of screen shots showing what you've done, or a video showing the step by step process that you are doing.

Re: SQL query - how do you use the result?

You seem to be mixing up Xbasic SQL/passive/active link table access in code, and the much more straightforward (if a browse showing these results is all you want!) steps of creating an active link table...

The above link has screenshots of how such active link tables - where you can filter using arguments, as you seem to want to do - can be set up easily. All you do is then create a browse and or form based on that active link table.

Thank you!. I found an error on my Data Base. Now, Active Link Tables are working very well on DB2 V9.5

What was the error? Others can learn from this and know what to look for....

Angel, how about describing the error (and the fix), in case your experience will benefit others. For example the next DB2 guy who is having trouble. These threads become resources that help others later on, unless they end with a simple... "well, I found it and fixed it" if you see what I mean.

                    Two things:
                    1. I just change my server platform. I used to use DB2 on WinXP. In fact, Id reinstalled this "server" many times and always get the same problem. Other PowerBuilder Apps did not report any problem, but A5. So, I installed DB2 on a real W2k3 Server.
                    2. I exported my Data from DBF to the new DB2 with A5 own utility.

Now Active Link Tables work ok and fast.
