Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a5_synchronize_folders broken in latest patch?

    I have been using a5_synchronize_folders to sync up production folders for several months without problems - until the latest patch. Now it seems to sync whatever & whenever it wants. Could someone verify that this is not working properly in patch 1534-3188 before I report it to Alpha?

    Here is the line in the script:

    dbpath=A5.GET_PATH()
    a5_synchronize_folders(dbpath,"c:\datafiles","web*.d*",.t.)
    a5_synchronize_folders(dbpath,"c:\datafiles","web*.cd*",.t.)

    There are multiples of these lines to sync different files if they have changed. I get no error of any kind. It syncs some files but not others. There is adequate room on the drive & I can can manually copy the files thru explorer. It is copying to a folder that the A5V9 web server is using for data display. Files in that folder are not locked as there is no updating of files just display.

    As I said, this has worked successfully since 11/07 until this last patch.

    I went ahead & reported to Alpha - I can confirm that the patch was the problem as I rolled back to the previous patch & synchronize_folders works again.

      I can't duplicate a problem.

      I created two folders:

      c:\folder1
      c:\folder2

      I put a file called 'file1.txt' in c:\folder1.

      Then from the Interactive widow:

      Code:
      ?a5_synchronize_folders("c:\folder1","c:\folder2","*",.t.)
      = files =
      c:\folder1\file1.txt|c:\folder2\file1.txt
      folders = ""

      ?a5_synchronize_folders("c:\folder1","c:\folder2","*",.t.)
      = files = ""
      folders = ""

      This is the correct result.

      After the first call to a5_synchronize_folders() I get told that c:\folder1.txt has a newer version of 'file1.txt' than c:\folder2 (which is correct since c:\folder2 does not contain any version of 'file1.txt').

      Then after the second call to a5_synchronize_folders() I get told that there are no files that are out of date (which is correct since I had synchronized them in the previous call to a5_synchronize_folders())

      If you still think that there is a bug, can you describe a test that I can run that will allow me to duplicate the issue.

      Thanks

        I'm not sure but I thought the initial post was about changed rather than new files, not sure it makes a difference...

        It would probably help to have a few examples of file names/extensions for those that do and those that don't sync correctly.

          i just tried editing the file in folder1. so now folder2 has an old copy of the file and folder1 has a new copy. still works correctly.

            Unless I discover otherwise, it appears the problem was being caused by the memory error reported for patch 3188. After updating to the latest patch (which includes the crash fix), all seems to be working again.
