Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problems 1534-3188

Since upgrading to 3188 I have been receiving errors that claim that a table is being used by another session and can only be viewed. Everything is closed except the Control Panel. Refresh does not remove the error. When I restart Alpha the problem disappears.

Another, perhaps unrelated issue, is at times when I shut down I get an error that some memory location can not be saved.

Any suggestions on what I should do or is there another update coming?

    Thanks
    Truman

If the error message is the same as the thumbnail, then I sent a bug report yesterday.

              Re: Problems 1534-3188

I'm using 3188 - I am almost certain that what is happening is a registry issue - if you have a good registry cleaner, like Registryfix, try running that and see if that fixes it. I don't know what circumstance causes it, but the cleaner fixes it for me in all versions. I suspect that it occurs during development, where we either maybe crash, or something similar lettting the registry to think it is in use.

                Hi All,

I have just had this back from the Bug dept at Alpha.
If you get this problem again, can you open the Windows task manager (ctrl-Alt-del), go to the "processes" tab and see if Alpha five is still running after shutdown, or there are multiple instances running? This information would be very helpful.
Lets give them what they want.
                Regards

                  Re: Problems 1534-3188

i also get this error - and YES i almost always find alpha processes running even though they have closed the app... it had gotten so bad that i had the it guy run a script to purge all alpha sessions each night to make sure that even if machine isn't shut down, it will clean up.

I've also seen a similar problem where when you open the $.mpx temp files are created, and when you leave they are supposed to delete themselves, but they don't' always... In V5 this happened occasionally, but now in V9 it is every night there are still tons of these not deleted.. It guy built script to close session and delete all $.MPX files as well.. seems to help some, except when it happens during day and then they start locking and getting errors because the script runs at night..

would love to know how to fix this

Do Patches have to be run on each client, each workstation? or do i just do it here at my office on the development level? Do i just download and load at each server?

                          Hi Lynda,

I would recommend to only install the patches on your clients if they have reported the same problems.

If you do need to update their system then Yes the runtime patch will need to be installed on each machine.

Also the machine where the full version is installed would need the full version.

I have loaded the new patch and that has fixed the problems reported.
                          Regards
