Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: dynamic for each statements

    That's a great idea! I can conceptualize it but I don't know how to dynamically create a set. I'll do some searches and check the help.

    I definitely think I'm too deep into the complexities at the moment and I'm glad I had your set of eyes to check this out. I really, really appreciate your help and if there's anything I can do for you, just ask!

      Looking to buy a new car! Either a Jaguar XJ8

      or a Lotus:

      As to dynamically create a set, look into:
      <tbl>.set_create()
      <tbl>.set_add()
      etc..

        lol - when I make my millions I will definitely hook you up. I'm partial to BMW's so I'll get an M3 and race you in the Lotus!!! (too bad the M3s are so much heavier now...).

        Thanks for the quick information on dynamic sets... I'll let you know how I do after a weekend full of work.

        Thanks again!

          That's all.
          When you create a set, alpha creates a composite table. The records in that composite table reflects all possible combination between the parent and the child(ren).
          ...
          So, all you have to do, is dynamically create a set.
          Just to expand on Gabe's very clever idea (which immensely simplifies coding). Your set would require the following two conditions:
          1. It must be a cascading 1:M set - otherwise you won't get all the combos (see image)
          2. Use a universal linking expression such as 1=1, that way you won't need to worry about a linking key.
          BTW: You could have your 20 blank tables pre-built and just populate the ones you need dynamically on the fly. Then zap them as step 1 of your code before building the next dynamic set.

            Peter:
            I thought of that, but then you would have a set with 20 tables all the time as opposed to if you do it dynamically, you might have a set with as few as 2 tables, a much more efficient one.

              Gabe,

              I don't mean have a pre-built set, just pre-built (empty) tables. The user would automatically concatenate a set based upon the user selections. The set might be two tables or all twenty. By having pre-built tables (which presumably would always be used to one degree or another), it saves the xbasic step of creating tables on the fly - you only need to populate them.

                That's what I meant when I said:

                When I first read your post, I though you wanted to have a pre-built set in addition to these tables.
