Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

BUG: Form objects not available for Refresh Objects.

I installed latest patch (1557-3189). Using action scripting, I have no form objects listed as a choice to refresh. Can someone confirm this as a bug, please.

In the attached example, in design mode, try and add to the refresh button, by action script or genie, the event of refreshing the browse (Object Properties > Refresh Objects). You can't because no objects are listed to choose from to refresh.

        Hi,

I hope this has been reported as a bug. I think did confirm this in another thread, if I didn't, then I confirm it now.

Selwyn has confirmed the other problem of the dialog box not being able to be defined will be fixed in the next patch and in the mean time we should roll back.

I'm still not quite sure the error on close has gone away. I shall let my app run for a while and see what happens.

Are you saying the browse does not come up when you choose add objects to list?? You must selct each object to be included as to what is refreshed. I did not try this on the last release but it does work on the current.

            Hi Bill,

Which version are you referring to?

Selwyn has confirmed this is all part of the same bug.

As recommended I have rolled back to Addin 3187.

The version released today (1561-3190). There is no mention of this fix in the release notes, but then again, I am not sure it was a bug, since it looks like it is working fine.

                Hi Bill,

                From Release Notes:
Xdialog - Buttons - A bug was introduced in build 1557-3189 that resulted in certain buttons on Xdialogs getting broken. Clicking on the button did not invoke the button's OnClick event. Many different functions in Alpha Five were impacted by this bug and if you had installed build 1557-3189, then this update is an essential update.
Thanks for telling me this is ready for download, Selwyn told me it was going to be Monday morning.

As I said, nothing specific about the problem reported in this thread in the release notes. I guess many things could fit under the umbrella of "Many different functions in Alpha Five were impacted by this bug".

                    Hi Bill,

You are right, umbrellas do cover many things from the sun to the rain and Alpha's non documented events.

There is still the exit problem of when Alpha is left running on a machine for a long period of time (not sure of the cut off at present).

This was first reported 2 builds ago, do you have this as a problem?

Just to be sure it is not just this machine I'll update my laptop and test it there. Watch this space.

Kieth, do you know what the last build number was that DID NOT have these problems. I'm looking at moving a client from 8 to 9, and want to be sure to avoid something like the system freezing after a certain length of time.

Re: BUG: Form objects not available for Refresh Objects.

                        Hi Martin,

The latest Version is 1561 -3180.

The system was not freezing, it was just the error message on exit.

It seems most of the reported bugs have been fixed but it is the one about the memory error on exit which Selwyn has confirmed is fixed and will be in the next patch.

V9 has so much more in it that it make working with Alpha even more of a pleasure.

News update from Laptop: Error message on exit after application left running since last message.

As stated before this has been fixed and will be in next patch.
