Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Incorrect Set?

    Hi, everyone. I'm sorry if this question had been repeated but I've gone through the entire forum and couldn't find a related solution.

    I have a Set which is defined as below:

    Relationship
    ............|= Role
    ...................|= Party

    each of them has one-to-many relationship, where

    Party can be a person or and organization;

    Role is the role that played by each party, eg. supplier, customer, parent organization and etc.;

    Relationship is to defined the relationship between 2 parties, for instance, Mary Smith is an employee of Company ABC and the relationship between them is Employment.

    Party: Party_ID | Party_Name
    Role: Role_ID | Party_ID | Role_Type (Each party could play >1 roles)
    Relationship: Relationship_ID | Role_ID | Relationship_Type

    I have a form which defines the role and relationship with a tabbed control and it works well. The problem now is I have an embedded browse in third tab which I want to display a table like this:

    From_Party_Name|From_Party_Role|To_Party_Name|To_Party_Role|Relationship
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Mary Smith |Employee |Company ABC |Employer |Employment
    John Doe |Supplier |XYZ Inc. |Organization |Suplplier Organization

    My question is: how can I grab those information that are from different tables and display them correctly into the embedded browse? The primary table of the browse is "Relationship" table.

    I've examined Alpha Sports and found what I want in Products Sales Review form where the primary table of the browse is "Invoice_Items" and yet it can shows the "Date" and "Sold To" fields accordingly with the "Invoice #". However, I don't find anything special that has been done to get this effect.

    So, I'm wondering if my Set is incorrect? What I want is just to grab information from three different tables and display within an embedded browse.

    Thank you in advance. :)

    Re: Incorrect Set?

    Anyone?

    What I want is just to include all the information from 3 tables that in the same Set to be displayed in an embedded browse.

    Example of table:

    Party table
    Party # = P0001
    Name = Mary Smith

    Party # = P0002
    Name = Company ABC

    Role table
    Role # = R0005
    Party # = P0001
    Role = Employee

    Role # = R0006
    Party # = P0002
    Role = Employer

    Relationship table

    Relationship # = R0010
    From Role # = R0005
    To Role # = R0006
    Relationship = Emplyment

    Information that I want to display on an embedded browse:
    From_Party_Name|From_Party_Role|To_Party_Name|To_Party_Role|Relationship
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Mary Smith | Employee | Company ABC | Employer | Employment

    I hope this is clear enough to my question.

    Thank you.

      Re: Incorrect Set?

      So, I'm wondering if my Set is incorrect?
      There is no "incorrect" set if it serves your purposes. Note that the set upon which the "Products Sales Review form" is based is a "reverse/inverse" of the set upon which the Invoice form is based.

      You may need a similar reversal to accomplish what you want.
      There can be only one.

        Re: Incorrect Set?

        Hi Stan,

        Thank you for your reply.

        I can understand what you mean and I've tried the set like this as well:

        Party=>Role=>Relationship

        but I have no luck to get what I want.

        I think maybe I don't understand about what actually a Set is for. What I understand is a Set defines a relationship between tables and allows fields from multiple tables to be imported into one form. Is there any source to explain more about the concept of Set in A5?

        Thank you.

          Re: Incorrect Set?

          Linking tables in a set.

          Multiple entries in the help index shown in the attachment.
          There can be only one.
