Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Why do I have to click twice to open browse?

90% of the time I have to click twice to open a browse from a menu button. When you open the menu, you will get an error message, disregard it. Go to the Browses tab, click on Inventory browse. If it opens the first time, try it again. Most of the time, you need to click twice. Any help appreciated. Click on the padlock to bypass the menu's "No design mode" feature.

Also, I often get this message when first clicking on a browse button the first time. Second time I click on it, it opens OK.
    Script: onpush line:30
    varP_inventory = :Browse.view(Layout_name)
    Not found
    Inventory: tables:parts not found

    Hi Jim,

Tried to compact the database and got an error on the parts table. Is the data maybe an excel import??

    Later....

Edit: Renamed the browse inventory as old. Made a new browse and named it inventory, based on the parts table, use no formatting, etc. . Now, the new browse so far, opens up each time. Is maybe there a problem with the formatting/etc. somewhere in the origional browse?

Not sure why your tried to compact the database but, no, it's not an excel import. You ask

I don't know. That's what I was hoping to find out. This is not the only browse that does this. It was just my sample. So, I assume it did it for you too.

I have found the problem and fixed it. Fix will be in the next update.

You had to click twice because the first time you tried to open the browse and error was being generated. So the command failed. The second time, there was no error, so it opened. I don't understand why there was an error in the first place, but it is fixed now in any event.

Last night I downloaded update 1565-3191. Hope that was the update that included this fix? While I have your attention; 2 questions.
          1. I think (I may be mistaken) in Version 8 the chm Help File had a date on the web site download screen so we could compare to see if we had the latest before downloading the 50 meg file. I don't see anything like this in the Version 9 download screen. How do I know if an updated chm file is available?
          2. The above was prompted because I viewed the online video about Smart Fields and the screen shots don't match what I'm seeing when I go thru the creation process on my computer; and, when checking the help file, those screen shots don't look like the video or the actual program either. For an Action Script programmer, this is very confusing.

sorry it was not clear when i said 'next' patch. I meant the next one that we release. it is not in the current patch.

regarding item 2 - there may have been small changes to element on the UI after a video was recorded (although I am surprised that it would actually throw a viewer off) - however the 'what's new in v9' document (Help/What's new in v9) should describe the smart fields in more detail.

In your next update, I hope you include the ability to change the font and color of the text in the Smart Fields & hyperlinks. Depending on the color theme of our forms, hyperlinks are hardly visible and much too small. If the ability to change font size and color are there, I missed it.
