Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Now in this new built, When we get out if an RTF field for the first time, the RTF toolbar desapears. We need to reopen the form in order to get it again. I think it was not like that in previous built.

this is fixed now in build 1634-3197

default font (set in view/settings) for rtf memo is honored when you type directly into the field (not just when using the popup editor).

thanks to all for bringing this to our attention.

Re: Font size for a Rich Text Memo field in a browse

Well, all is about direct usability of text data, as close as possible as a word processor. So, I begin to think about Browse for what it is, a nice full view and a field in the form to see a larger view of a specific record. What I am suprised about is that it works without setting anything to link the form and the browse. So now, it is almost nice. A nice thing is that even at runtime, we can resize row hight.

Also, a tip, is that I left some room in the form so I can position the RTF toolbar there as a floating small tool set, near above the RTF field, not the long toolbar when hoocked to the top menu bar, .

By the way, do you know how in a browse we can have in each row a kind of form with several fields freely positioned like in a real form (I mean like what is natural in FileMaker browse)?

    Hi Marc,

I'm very slow to understand things sometimes.

Why have you got a RTF in a browse?

There is no reason why it cant be a separate field out side of the browse, with each record in the browse having its own RTF text. See thumbnail of what I mean.

With the RTF in the browse you would not be able to read all the text with out opening it.

Re: Font size for a Rich Text Memo field in a browse

At first, I do not have this option when the RTF is embedded in a browse.
But, I will use the browse as a large sight of the table and as a select record tool. So, I added the same field on the form, out of the browse, and yes, your tip allows all RTF tools without opening the RTF window. And we can move from record to record with PGUP/PGDN shortcuts. I manage also to set that record as first in tab order and/or the only one in the tab order.
Did not try much before that reply but think it will make me happy enough! : ) The only not so sad element, is that the browse always scrolls so the first record appears first line with the one I am editing in the RTF Field.

Thanks for your int towards a good and easy improvement.

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

Is there a way to automatically popup the edit window when we enter a RTF memo?
Is this what you want? See thumbnail.

Me too, it is really enoying. The default font size is really small (8 rather than 12) and my goal is to use A5 as a text creation tool.

So, I need to right click all what I enter to change font size. I have hundreds of records ahead.
I don't know why we need to open an edit window. We need to go and click a far at right side corner icone (is there a way to get a shortcut to that window?).

Is there a way to automatically popup the edit window when we enter a RTF memo?
It would be a nice solution if we can get some record navigation shortcuts in that window,
and get out and save (with a shortcut) and get out without save (such as ESC).

Another weard behavior is if we try to edit display format in column header, if we put a font, data desapears. (turns to white or, this feature is for added object in the column, so it would maybe wipe datafield format. Also, in a RTF memo field, column properties do not show same amount of features as with other datafield types.

    i just checked this out.

it appears that the default font that you set in view/settings/system fonts is only honored if you first open the pop-up RTF memo editor, and not if you start typing into the memo field directly.

I will have to investigate this further.
