If that is copy and pasted it should be

update.expr1 = "if(containsi(Qct,\"heaven\"),.T.,QctFOUND)"

is QctFOUND a logical? Is the field being updated a logical?

Works fine here (v8).

In your script section attempting to concatenate a filter expression from variables you have


var->vfield1 = "Oct"

I think you meant

var->vfield1 = "Qct"

I get an error update.expr1 is not defined

Had a look at script; Thanks, not sure what I should be looking at!

The script reads the cust table and looks in the memo field for what ever word that the user types in.
If it finds the word it marks the logican field as True so that i can use the logical field for other operations.


The find command works for any fields except memo fields.

var->v2 = var->vfield1 + Chr(44) + Chr(92) + Chr(34) + var->vfindwords + Chr(92) + Chr(34)+ Chr(41)

You had a chr(39) that was unnecessary.

update.expr1 = var->v4

- you never assigned any value to "filter" which you were referencing in this line.

Getting a field and expression types error now.

update.expr1 = unquote(var->filter)

Hi Charlie,

I know you guys like to play with Xbasic, but this is what AS did for me.

(1) Update Operation Logical all to be .F.
(2) Prompt for Text
(3) Update Operation Logical to .T. with condition set with containsi(QCT,Var->vfindwords)

Time taken, less than it took to write this message.

I also tested with RT Memo, dont know why that wont work???

Charlie, here is a snippet for searching RTF Memo fileds

comments is the field name, and var->searchfor is text the user wants to find
