Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Difference between platinum and standard for v9

    Hi,

I discover that there are 2 webpages that describe the difference between standard and platinum. One is this webpage

http://www.alphasoftware.com/alphafi...inum/index.asp under the heading Key Reasons To Go Platinum

The other is http://support.alphasoftware.com/Wha...V9_Welcome.htm. Refer to the table.

The 2nd webpage seems to say that the only difference between platinum and standard is supporting of sql.

However, the 1st webpage seems to say the difference is not just sql supporting, but even more. E.g Full event model in Reports, Browses Forms and Major enhancements to Browses, XBasic, XDialog and Security. So can I just confirm that standard version does not have a full event model for reports and Browses Forms and no major enhancement is made to Browses, XBasic, XDialog,etc..??

If the 2nd webpage I listed above is the correct comparison between the standard and platinum, then the 1st webpage should be updated to reflect correctly the difference. I almost thought that the only difference is just support of sql.

What you need to know is that Platinum was the first version of A5V9 that was released so the stuff on the first webpage probably relates to V9 compared to V8... If you don't get a reply from Selwyn or Richard maybe you could email them to notify them, since you are correct that this needs to be updated :)

Hi, Thanks for reply. Based on your reply, it seems that you agree that the only difference between standard and platinum version is just ONLY the sql support?

Re: Difference between platinum and standard for v9

Indeed that's how I understood it - the only reason the other stuff is mentioned on the other page, is because Platinum was released before Standard, so some of the earlier V9 documentation still refers to V9 exclusively as V9 Platinum.

I receive an email from richard.

          Indeed http://support.alphasoftware.com/Wha...V9_Welcome.htm is accurate.

In conclusion, the only difference is just the sql support.

            I would like to take this opportunity to ask another question;

The difference between active and passive table.

According to what I found, it says that A Passive-Linked Table is a standard .DBF table

Does that mean that passive linked table refer to the internal database engine built in in alpha 5? Active linked table refer to external database such as mysql, ms sql server?

I search internet for the meaning of passive/active linked table..it seems that this term is only used in alpha five software.

Yes, see screenshots for a list of available data sources for SQL reporting, active links etc.
