Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Action button on a browse, possible?

I see new features on V9 which include buttons on a browse. Is it possible to look at a browse of purchase order items and click on a button on each line of the browse which would set values and post records?
This would set the focus to that row, set the qty rcvd to equal qty ordered, set rcvd_dt to date(), set B/O to zero, then save the record and then the field rules would do the usual posting?
Then, the user could click the button in the next row or three rows down.

I have in mind a Purchase Order header as parent and then ordered items as child in the browse on the form.

I watched the video on the Alpha site but wasn't sure. Thanks for the info. I'll figure it out or be back here with more questions.

Well, maybe you can do it but I can't.
I placed an embedded browse on a form.
I placed a generic action button as a last column.
          I can't define the generic action "on push" with action scripting so;
I copied the action script xbasic code from a button on a form that does the same thing and pasted the code into the generic action xbasic definition. When I click on the button, it does absolutely nothing. I don't even get an error message.
I attached the xbasic code I pasted.

Edit the script to add the line

            debug(1)

            as the first line.

Then you can step through what is happening when you press the button.
            There can be only one.

you must define your script in the "Events" of the browse between the

              Code:
              FUNCTION GROUP_ID_ButtonClick AS V ( event AS C, data AS C , row AS N )
              	this.Set_Viewport_row(row)
              put your code here

              END FUNCTION
right click on the browse, select events

              Code:
              FUNCTION GROUP_ID_ButtonClick AS V ( event AS C, data AS C , row AS N )
              	this.Set_Viewport_row(row)
              	AddEditGroupFormula("Edit",table.current().Group_Id,topparent:TOTAL_HEAD.value,topparent:CURRENT_PHASE.value,table.current().recno())
              END FUNCTION

Thank you both for your help. It's a bit above my abilities but, I'll give it a try. Right now I'm battling a bigger problem which locks up my program so, until I solve that one, this design issue will have to take a back seat. Thanks again. Now, to my lost indexes problem.
