Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    TabNumber=tabptr.tabs.sheet.size()
Unfortunately, I have to strip a lot of code out and make some edit changes to make a post-able version, and that leads to errors like the above.

Actually, it looks like my response was within 4 hours, but you may be in a different time zone from most responders!

Re: Find out how many pages/sheets a tabbed object has?

G - I had looked at .tab_get and .tab_set but I needed a solution that wouldn't trigger any ontab change events. I never actually tried them but assumed they would trigger any ontab change events. I know I didn't include that snippet of information in my original post and I guess this telepathy stuff isn't working to well because you didn't manage to pick up my thoughts but I do appreciate you sharing the code as I am always interested in different solutions.

Ira - I am in the UK and posted the problem not long before leaving work. I don't get to use Alpha much at home during the week and even if I did risk getting the laptop out I wouldn't get any peace from my youngest as she would want to go on the Dora website. When I came in this morning and followed the link you provided I misread your usage policy. I first interpreted it as not being able to use it in an application that is to be sold. I don't know why I interpreted that way (maybe the caffeine hadn't kicked in). This put me off downloading it but after reading it again I realise you were just prohibiting someone making money from selling it as function or part of a collection of functions, which is understandable. I look forward to looking at the corrected one when you get it up and running.

      Thanks all.

.tab_set() does invoke an ontab event. In general, you should not cause side effects (unless no other way) when obtaining info like this, which you tried to achieve.

I understand the problem, although it helps having several computers, 1 for your kid's use (Trouble is when I'm traveling with family and only have one laptop:D)

It was corrected while I was typing my previous response (You might have to do a refresh of the browser to get the newer version 1.01)

As for my posted functions, my internal versions in my function library are much more extensive and complicated. Unspecified parameters are typically prompted for, and it is simpler to utilize (at the expense of more complicated code). Eventually, these may end up in a purchasable library, should it ever prove economically viable.

E.g. the same TabNumber function allows you to set a specific tab by number or by name of the tab, as well as returning the current tab number or total number of tabs.

Ira, I was just needing this and it is not exposed in xbasic explorer. Thanks.
