Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: OnKey Event not firing ?

    Olivier:
Oddly enough, after not being able to reproduce the error, finally it happened to me, and then I couldn't get back to the state I'd been in before in which the OnKey worked along with the subform. However, in looking at the form, unless you absolutely need a subform, it's not clear why you have one. The construction is simpler if you just put the fields you want on the "searchform" along with a conditional object around the fields. You can use the conditional object to hide or show fields. I am attaching a zip that shows what I mean.
You may have found a bug in OnKey with subforms. If so, I'm sure Alpha will fix it, but in the meantime you may want to avoid the subform entirely.

Re: OnKey Event not firing ?

It looks like there's a bug here with subforms and OnKey. I reported it to Alpha; in the interim I suggest you use the workaround of a conditional object and avoid subforms.

The same behavior exists in Version 8 and Version 7

        FWIW

No Gabriel, no searchnumber field in the subform....

            Aha! Found a bug !! ;-)

I see what you mean by use of a conditional object. Did not know of its existance, I'll go study your script to find out...

thank you very much, and to all here responding: I am amazed of the help i got here, very quick responders !!

Yes I realized that after opeining your zip file.
Check response to your other thread.
I am not sure what bugs, but I don't see any. As I mentioned in reply to your other thread, you are better off either with a conditional object, or better yet an OnChange event that shows the subform using exist() expression.

yes, Peter Wayne sent me an example on how to use a conditional object around my fields. I'm going to rebuild my form that way.... thanx

Re: OnKey Event not firing ?

                  Good.
Once again, an onchange event is much better than an OnKey event or a conditional object. See example provided in the other thread.

Re: OnKey Event not firing ?

busy on converting my subform fields to the conditional object....

it looks though that to link the fields to the conditional object i have to create them in the conditional.
I try and cut the field from the subform and paste it in the conditional but that does not link it.
In the help file it reads that one should create a field in the conditional object, so i assume i have to create the fields again ?

sorry, solved already...... i put them in the wrong layer....

Re: OnKey Event not firing ?

OK, could you please look into my sample?

I've made a small database with the searchform with works perfectly now with the conditional object and i've also created a mainform which contains a subform where i load the searchform into. Then it all goes wrong...

I've put some text on the forms to explain things

                      Please find the sample attached....

                        Olivier,
Until Alpha fixes the bug with OnKey and subforms, I don't think you should keep trying different ways of putting them together. It will only make you frustrated. If you want to imitate subforms, you can always stack conditional objects inside of each other. Or you can switch from the main form to secondary form -- it happens quickly enough that it will not affect the user experience. You don't have to put all your application inside of one main form.
Or, you can wait until these bugs are fixed. They clearly have been present a long time (since v7), and if they haven't been noticed before, it's because no one else has tried to use an OnKey event with subforms.
