Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Record Navigator design question

I have a question with the new feature in V9, Record Navigator. When I set up the navigator buttons in "design" mode, they look fine as can be seen in the attached design.jpg file. But, when I switch to "use" mode (after saving the form) the view is different (see usemode.jpg) and the navigator arrows hug the bottom. Is there no way to center them horizontally or vertically?

    Hi Jim,

Did you choose Predefined buttons when creating the button? I used that method and it works fine. The default property settings is Center for both vertical and horizontal alignment.

I used the predefined buttons, VCR control and I unselected First and Last record, leaving only next and previous. I then defined a border. Within the border, the position of the VCR buttons moves from design to use mode.

I put mine on one at a time and only used the Next and Previous buttons.

What do you mean "one at a time"? Do you mean you put a NEXT button and then put on a PREVIOUS button? If I don't use a border, I don't notice the change. Also, depending on the style of your form, you can't change the color or size of the Record Navigator so the buttons can't be seen if the form has similar background color.

            Re: Record Navigator design question

Looks like we're talking two different ways of doing it. I used the button tool, chose action script and then pre-defined buttons, clicked on Records and made the choice. You can only choose one at a time; it doesn't come in a set. It also has all the properties a button should have.

              Yes
The way I was doing it, that I am having trouble with, is:
I choose "Supercontrol" from the toolbox in form design. Then, I select Record Navigator.

                Hi Jim,

I can see your problem with the Super Control when you select VCR.

To keep the buttons in the centre of the frame horizontally, make the frame bigger by 3 rows of dots below the VCR buttons.

                You may need experiment.

Oh, I figured out how to make them centered by working around it. Too bad I need to do that though. I don't want the frame that big! Also, need to be able to change background color, either of the button or the frame so we can see the supercontrol buttons. I've found most of the supercontrols are useless unless you program in xbasic anyway.

Put the buttons on the screen one at a time and then use the frame tool to put a frame around it. You will now have all kinds of options for doing what you need.

It doesn't sound like you are using the SuperControl.

                        Jim,

Ken is not using the SuperControl.

That is why he suggested you used separate buttons to give you the control you wanted.
