Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Olivier,

I'm sorry, I just dont understand what you are asking.

I must admit I do have a very simple brain with only two cells to rub together.

Please could you give a little more information as to what you are trying to do and what cant you find. Even how are you looking!

Re: Referencing fields on conditional objects

      Hi Keith,

      I mean this:

i have a form with a conditional object (COND1) on it.
The conditional object has a layer named show and the default layer.
I have put a type-in field called name on the layer show.

Now i want to give the field focus, or i want to read the text of the name field. How do i reference the field.

Normally it would be (without the conditional object): name.text or name.activate()

but what with the conditional object?

      is it COND1.show.name.activate() ?

Re: Referencing fields on conditional objects

How about changing the condition so it shows and give it focus.

Else if you just need to put something in it, you still can even if it does not show.

        .

just name.text ? what if i have the same field on different layers ?

i cannot find anything in the help-file on that

Re: Referencing fields on conditional objects

Olivier, use the Object Explorer (on the View Menu drop down) to get the name of the object you want to address in your script.

Here's an example illustrating with a button push how to change the text in a text object on layer "B" in a conditional object.

I used "absolute addresses" for the object. This is probably poor form, but useful to illustrate how to find and reference the object.

Check the help file discussions on:

            Absolute Addresses
            Incomplete Addresses
            Relative Addresses
            Pointer Addresses

And the topic where I first began my studies years ago: "Referring to Form and Browse Objects"

            for more information

Re: Referencing fields on conditional objects

Tom, thanx for your sample app...

I've put a multistate button on it to change my_var in A,B,C... when the cond1 is on sheet A and you push the button A5 doesnt find the object to change the text for... So that is the answer... The conditional object only hides or shows things and when there are shown they are accessible like normal objects. If they are not shown (eg on a different layer/sheet) they are not accessable...

                - Olivier

Olivier, actually I think you've got it wrong. You can manipulate the text in text boxes on any layer, whether they're visible or not. But you can only "see" one layer at a time depending upon which layer corresponds to the current condition you've defined.

Check this example out to see what I mean.
