Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    helllllllllllllllllllllllllppp .. deadline approaching!

    ok heres a database attached.
i'm a newbie to alpha 5 and am trying to get it to do certain things but cant seem to get them right.
if anyone can help with the stuff, and let me know how to or how you did it, it would help immensely!!

    1. add a search (search by any field) feature in a new tab.
    2. add the clock/ calendar item to the date fields and remove it from the scanned documents field.
    3. on the comments tab, there is a "save record" button, i would like that when the user clicks the button , tab 1 appears at the front.
    4. how to get rid of the annoying "print" message when i click on the report.
    5. oh and how do i make the images on the report bigger???

and a question, are the reports automatically updated when i make changes in the form?

        1. add a search (search by any field) feature in a new tab.
Built into Alpha, called Query by Form.
        There can be only one.

How would we know what you consider annoying? I assume you mean the usual print dialog. Turn it off in the properties.

Search by any field. Does this mean you wish the search to cover the possibilities of the value existing in one or more fields, or that the user chooses the field to search, or an example for any field would be OK?
In a new tab. I don't understand what you are asking for with this.

            2. add the clock/ calendar item to the date fields and remove it from the scanned documents field.

There is no date field in the table. The clock/calendar is there because the scanned document field type is 'Time'.

            3. on the comments tab, there is a "save record" button, i would like that when the user clicks the button , tab 1 appears at the front.

This already happens in my version.

            4. how to get rid of the annoying "print" message when i click on the report.

I am not certain what "annoying "print" message" that you are seeing is. A message presents that the report layout (size) is an issue;. Your report is all laid out in a landscape fashion that spans a width of 18 inches. There is a conflict between what can be printed and that report layout that will have to be amended.

            5. oh and how do i make the images on the report bigger???

            done.

and a question, are the reports automatically updated when i make changes in the form?

            Kieth addressed this.

              Hi Mike,

Maryam has many other issues and I am expecting her to call me in the morning. I think I will need to do a tutorial with her and explain how sets and lookups work.

She works just a few miles from my office.

                  Re: helllllllllllllllllllllllllppp .. deadline approaching!

                  hi keith,
had the meeting with the group and have redone the database, with simpler needs. as i felt there were much too many fields in the previous.emailing you a copy of the new database with the new desired functions.1. on the remove/replace tab add a search feature.
the search should be by any field.when the result of the search appears we should be able to do the following with it.
                  a) delete it..with an option of how many have been deleted
                  b) edit it.
                  c) be able to view the search result as an excel file and/or pdf.

i got your earlier email.i'm working on a project with my department at imperial college.the database is of space components. its a side project i've been assigned!software arrived today and the deadline is friday!! - maryam.

I hope Kieth understands this, because I would ask the same thing I did before:

Does this mean you wish the search to cover the possibilities of the search value existing in one or more fields, or that the user chooses the field to search, and executes the search action?
