Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problem with ListView control

I follow the A5Made easy PDf from page 312 to page 319 about creating a filtered dialog box. The first listview control setup is fine. The second one with adding argument seem does not work. When preview XDialog, the registration box is empty.
Then I lookup the A5help and create the dialog box, same thing happen.

The RegListView code created in the ABC seminars database works fine either double click or run the code. I made a same duplication with different name eg. RegListViewCopy, and run it. No error. However when I click design, without editing anything, then click next till finish, and save. The registration box is empty.

I tried it in both V8 Professional and V9 platinum. Same results.
    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks
    Razali

    Re: Problem with ListView control

Does anyone has the same error as this?

I though it could be due to My Kaspesky Antivirus, however after uninstall the antivirus, there is no improvement.

    Any help is appreciated.

      Re: Problem with ListView control

      Razali,

You have to realize that for someone to help, they would have to have the Alpha Five Made Easy you have---I happen to have the version 5 of this tutorial is all so I cannot help at all....and most of the more knowledgable people on this forum most likely do not have it as they are above this level and so why would they?

I suggest you present at least your script if not a simple sample in order for others to try to help you.
      Mike

              Re: Problem with ListView control

              Razali,

As I don't have your tables I could not use your script as it stood and so can just try to guess.

I got your script to work just fine by making sure the second (lower) box's filter was correct---by making whatever unique value is needed to equal the argument that was created and placing this in the Filter / Where clause. There is a slight refresh problem and had to click within the lower box to have the values show.

As I had to use my tables / fields I cannot give you a specific answer---Number ONE reason why a sample db is used to get the best direct and relevant help here--it takes the person with the problem longer to present a question but then takes those helping less time to try to give a solution and usually it can be a very specific answer that a person can use directly.

As you can tell, I have a hard time playing 20 questions when many times with a sample it can be accomplished with much less work. Maybe others will guess some more regarding your problem as not knowing what you did differently than I, I would have no clue where to start!

Hope you can figure it out.
              Mike

                Hi MikeC,

I am sorry for the trouble some.

I created the code /script within the alphasport sample database.

Here the tables: invoice_header and the invoice_items tables

                  Re: Problem with ListView control

                  Razali,

After creating a new database in which to incorporate your tables and script I found the same issue as you....As I have never done anything with the ListBox Control before, I simply used the Genie as you did. Should have worked....so feeling that something may have corrupted---the duplicate variable vInvoiceNumber was an indicator for me (two were showing in my sample)---I created new variables and arguments and it now works as expected (well, except for the refresh issue I mentioned in the prior post).

Import this script into your database and try it.

Note---thanks for the tables and script...it made it much easier to find the problem!

                    Hi Mike,

My mistake was not making the variable unique.

                    Thanks for the help.
