Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Pass Array to DLL

    I need to pass a couple arrays to a dll.

    I need to pass an array of 5 character fields and 4 numbers.

    I have the array set up as follows:

    Code:
    Dim TData[1,5] as c
    Dim NData[1,5] as n

    dim ReturnN as n

    TData[1] = "Monday"
    TData[2] = "Tuesday"
    TData[3] = "Wednesday"
    TData[4] = "Thursday"
    TData[5] = "Friday"

    NData[1] = 500
    NData[2] = 1500
    NData[3] = 500
    NData[4] = 800
    NData[5] = 500

    ' Other code which sets up the Graph stuff

    ReturnN = Graph.setData(NData,TData)
    It doesn't appear to send the arrays.

    Is there somehow to do this?

    I looked at declaring a structure, but I don't understand what it would need to look like, and how to pass it.

    Thanks for any help,
    Alan

    Re: Pass Array to DLL

    Alan,

    See my wish in the wishlist. Unless Alpha has come with a solution you can't use ActiveX or COM object that passes arrays in the way VB does with the Array() function. Or someone must have found a solution to this.

    I can point you to RMChart. You can use it in Xbasic and there are also examples of Xbasic in this thread. The parameters are passed in a loop to the chart. RMChart is build in PowerBasic.

      Re: Pass Array to DLL

      Marcel,
      Thanks, I'll take a look at RMChart.

      I was sort of able to get around the array passing problem because the ActiveX I was testing (ChartDirector) has an undocumented feature that allows a special delimited string to be passed instead of an array.
      So basically I can create Charts and have them saved to disk, and then display them in my form. I can't get the ActiveX component to play with A5, nor can I really get the ActiveX component on TeeChart to play well either. I suspect A5 doesn't really work too well with ActiveX components yet.

      I think what I'll end up doing is looking at RMChart, and then deciding whether I want to use RMChart, SimpleChart (upgraded) or ChartDirector (with really nice charts using VBScript to create them, but no mousehover or stuff like that because I can only get the vbscript process to work).

        Marcel,
        Do most of the things in RMChart work via the ActiveX control, with the couple of exceptions that you mentioned?

          If you can get around the array problem with the string option and there are no other obstacles than use ChartDirector. But if I read that event doesn't work than drop the ActiveX.

          About VBscript. If you create a form and put an IE ActiveX object on it and display a html page were you put the VBscript with the ChartDirector Object maybe that will help. But these are advanced technics. Examples linger around here for other ActiveX and also in the help. If you find examples in the help don't use the example code but look for the example code that got with A5. Look at the examples. Actually you use the IE environment. Maybe the ASP-server example in the help of the ChartDirector can be turned into client types.
