Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Could you please tell how I could copy your Publication_find form to my conference database? Thanks heaps.
    In the forms tab of the control panel right click the form name. Choose 'copy to...' then at the bottom choose 'more...'. This should give you a files dialog where you can navigate to the set in your application folder.

        I am away from a v9 machine for the whole day so I can't test this. the query for each keyword includes a "yes" paramater so it builds on the previous query. However before any queries are run I have included a topparent.show_all(). You should find this in the xdialog code of the super control in the If - EndIf section that has a_dlg_buton = "Fltr" as its test.Try commenting this out by preceding the line with single quote. That might do it.

            Re: How to Query on keywords

            I would like to thank Tom and especially Tim for helping us out with our first project. It provides what we need. There are just fine tuning to be done on sort on the Report. At present we could only sort on one field. We are hoping to add further fields to the sort list.

            Tim, thanks for the xdialog script for search on keyword. I tried to dissect the codes but not getting very far. Could you please help me out by explaining the logic behind it? Nice piece of work. Hope I could understand the logic so that I could add it to my toolkit.

            Thanks for all your help.

              Re: How to Query on keywords

              Query by keywords Xdialog kindly provided by Tim had been working well. Lately user feedback alerted us to error message of "Invalid filter or order expression> when user first filtered on the fields in <publication table>, then run query on selected keywords.

              If I run script to select all records then run keyword query, it will be OK.

              For Query on non-keyword fields, we enter the value in the desired fields then run query by form. Then we choose the keywords in the Xdialog box.

              The code for Xdialog is as follows:

              DIM SHARED zselect as C
              auto_list_zselect = table.external_record_content_get("keywords","Keyword","Keyword","unique_key_value()")

              temp_count = w_count(auto_list_zselect,crlf())
              DELETE a_zselect
              DIM a_zselect[temp_count] as c
              a_zselect.initialize(auto_list_zselect)
              ok_button_label = "&OK"
              cancel_button_label = "&Cancel"
              'IMPORTANT: Do not change the dialog title.
              ui_modeless_dlg_box(dlgTitle,<<%dlg%
              {background=<Transparent>}
              {region}
              [%M%.30,10zselect^#a_zselect][%mw%.30,10zselect];
              {endregion};
              {region}
              <Clear selections!clear><Run Query!fltr>
              {endregion}
              %dlg%,<<%code%
              if a_dlg_button = "clear" then
              zselect = ""
              end if

              IF a_dlg_button = "fltr" THEN

              vselect = remove_blank_lines(zselect)
              cmd = *for_each(ln,"dofilter("+quote(ln)+")",vselect)

              evaluate_template(cmd)
              END IF
              %code%)

              function dofilter as V(vkeyword as C)
              topparent.queryrun("keywords->Keyword = '" + vkeyword +"'","","","yes")
              End Function

              I am grateful for assistance. Thanks.

                Re: How to Query on keywords

                Strange observations with my conference database. The first one was the error reported above and second one is a case of vanishing Report. I created a Preview layout, saved and ran it. Worked as expected. Checked that it was there in the folder. Then as I ran query and chose View Report, error message of not able to find named Report appeared. The Report was no longer there! But for situation when the file was there, when I left double click on it, same error message pertaining to file not found. But the report was there!

                Luckily I had a few versions of the database. And by trial and error I managed to find one that did not have the two above issues. If I erased the files in the folder that were given problems, and copied the working files over, then it would behave.

                It is driving me mad. I would just have to restart Windows and tested the errand database to see whether reboot had fixed the problem.

                I hope I had not wasted your time on my problem. Thanks.
