Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email Report to Multiple Clients

    I was reading several message posts about emailing a report, and i'm finding things that are close to what i need, but was wondering if someone could help me with emailing more than one customer the same report.

    what i need is this.. i have a client that wants to be able to manually select a group of tickets and then run a report that lists them.. and then email to a manually selected group of clients...

    I created the report "Dispatch - AVAIL LOADS"... I then created a logical field "email" in both cust.dbf and dispatch.dbf that allows them to select the loads and customers to send... is there a way to loop through each cust entry that has .t. for email and grab the E_Mail field from each record and send the report automatically to each one? The report is already filtered on dispatch->email=.t., so i'd just have to run the report after they select the loads they want listed, then loop through the clients email addresses and send.

    Any suggestions from anyone?

    Re: Email Report to Multiple Clients

    Hello Linda,

    This may get you started:
    This code creates a query on your table, loop through it and send the email to the assigned email address. Provided the email address to the client is in the table.
    Dim SHARED t as P
    Dim qry as P
    Dim vrecs as N
    'reset var
    vrecs = 0
    t ="dispatch")
    query.description = ""
    query.options = "N"
    query.filter = "email = .T."
    query.order = ""
    qry = t.query_create()
    vrecs = qry.records_get()
    If vrecs > 0 then
    'get the first record in the query
    t. fetch_first()
    While .not. t.fetch_eof()
    'get the email address of the client
    'save the report in a specified folder
    'attach and send the email
    'after sending the email, flag the record as done
    t.change_begin() = .F. 'reset flag
    ''go to the next record in the query
    end while
    else 'no records
    msgbox("No emails to send")
    end if

      Re: Email Report to Multiple Clients

      thank you for your feedback. I had found another post (V8) that addressed this and sent a reply. I actually received a different idea using the
      function... I did post one question regarding this method - maybe you know the answer, or this may help you as well...

      'Send a report, label, letter, form or browse layout as an attachment to an e-mail message. You can specify which records to send.

      query.filter = ""
      query.order = ""

      to_param = a5_eval_expression("=(table.external_record_content_get(\"cust\",\"ALLTRIM(E_mail)\",\"\",\"email=.t.\"))",local_variables())
      cc_param = a5_eval_expression("",local_variables())
      bcc_param = a5_eval_expression("",local_variables())
      subject_param = a5_eval_expression("Available Loads",local_variables())
      message_param = a5_eval_expression("These loads are currently available. To inquire, call 800-555-1212",local_variables())

      :Report.Send("Dispatch - AVAIL LOADS","PDF",query.filter,query.order,"default",to_param,subject_param,message_param,cc_param,bcc_param)

      the question is how to make the list that it the record_content_get function provides with commas, so it can be sent as a group email. I know the stritran() function will do this, but i don't know how to apply to the above script to make it work.

      I will use this script if the client wants individual emails to go out.

        Re: Email Report to Multiple Clients

        I just created an example for this for a friend this weekend. Here it is. See if this helps.

        I have and he will be saving the report as a PDF file and sending that.
