Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Browse starting to annoy me..

Ok.. I thought this would be easy but I'm pulling my hair trying to figure it out.

Why is the horizontal scroll bar so clumsy? If I have an embedded browse that has a lot of columns that fits to the right of the screen I have to click the horizontal arrow 10 times before it goes to the right. This is unlike any other program I've seen.

Also, how I do make the horizontal scroll stop at the last column without it giving me all the white space at the end? I looked at the Alpha Sports and it's got the same thing there! If you ask me, it just doesn't look right.

    Any help is appreciated.

    JP,

Go to the control panel. Select forms. Go to the "Vendor" form. Go into the design mode. Stretch the right hand side of the form a little bit. Do the same to the tabs. Then the Browse its self. When you stretch the browse a little past the last field in the browse the action you describe will stop.

I actually clicked 3 times with the mouse on the scrowl bar which is the first three fields to make it jump to the forth field(to get it into view, to see the whole field).

Play a little bit with Alpha Sports, that is why it is there.

Ok, I did that. But then when you are in the Browse in Run Mode and resize the columns larger, then scroll to the right it happens again - lots of white space at the end.

In the AlphaSports you only have to click 3 times. But if you have a larger Browse with more columns you'll have to click way more times to get all the way to the right.

For example, in Excel once you click on the right arrow of the horizontal scroll the columns start moving to the right immediately. I think this is the way most software works. If an end user has to click 5 or 6 times before the scroll starts working they are going to think there is something wrong with the program.

        Hey JP,

In the browse, go into it's properties, and uncheck "read only". Right now the embedded browse is read only(highlighting the whole row). Uncheck the box, and see what action you get from there. At this end using my mouse clicking on the scrowl bar, it seems to be doing OK, with "read only" unchecked.

Has anybody else experience this? I find it hard to believe that this doesn't bug anyone but me.

Also, when is Alpha going to give us Browse grouping? I can't believe you can have one-to-many relational sets but no grouping on the browse.

Access can do this... I don't know about Filemaker..

The grouping would be a nice feature. I hope you put it in the wishlist on this forum. I don't know where I would need it, but I am sure others could and would.
