Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Code Editor saved code to wrong script

I was working in the Code Editor on two UDFs (See Picture). I added some things to the UDF in the second tab, saved it, then swithed to the function in the first tab. As you can see, A5 saved the script from tab2 as the script for both tab1 and tab2, and now both scripts for both functions are the same, and I lost the script for the first UDF.

Anyone ever see this before? A5v9, 1634:3197.

Nope. If you can repeat the problem after closing and reopening Alpha I hope you'll submit a bug report.

Yep. had that happen once. Closed and did a restore. Could not duplicate.
I back up on a very frequent basis. Have had more than a few very peculiar occurances that could not be duplicated, but still lost a fair amount of time/work.

Thank goodness the function lost was only about 100 lines and was easy enough to rewrite. As far as duplicating the error.... I'm thinking it was a hiccup. Can't recreate. Thanks for the input.

          Hi Mike,

I have seen this happen multiple times.

It is a particularly difficult issue I have dealt with in the CSDA Code Utility in numerous places, especially since much of the utility is centered so much around the code editor. There are timing issues that occasionally come up in the code editor in terms of saving the current buffer of the current code editor pane (tab) and switching to another. Sometimes the buffer is OK, but the menu and toolbars are for a different tab (e.g. an Action script tab or Interactive Window). Another common thing to see is a code execution error during a code editor operation (like switching tabs). Sometimes it's a paint issue, that switching to another tab (or the interactive window, which is different) and back will sometimes correct, but I've had this problem myself, losing my edited work with a copy from another open tab (including the interactive window)

That's one of the reasons for the backup of the data dictionaries at regular intervals feature of the CSDA Code Utility. It's saved me a couple of times for disasters just like this.

I don't know, but if you were using A5DOC or any of AIMS utilities and if they play with the code editor (including opening a code object), they might have similar issues.
          Regards,
