Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Unlimited Distribution Licence

About the Unlimited Distribution License mentionned in the August special
(Alpha Five Unlimited Distribution License + Alpha Five V9 Platinum).

I understand that the developper can create an unlimited number of different applications and sell them to an unlimited number of different companies. However, it does specify the number of concurrent users that can open a given application once deployed on a network at a given company.
Does "Unlimited Distribution" also means that once the app is deployed on a network at a given company, an unlimited number of employees can open the DB at the same time? or is it limited to 3 or 5 or 10 or 20... concurrent users per network?

    Re: Unlimited Distribution Licence

    Gaby,
Not sure why no one has answered you yet, but this is what the information from Alpha says concerning the Unlimited Distribution license:

For one low price with the new Alpha Five v9 Unlimited Distribution License, you can distribute as many applications as you like - for as many people as you like. The people to whom you distribute your application do not need to have Alpha Five installed. (It's also ideal for creating demo or trial versions of your commercial software.)

My understanding is that you can distribute your application for any number of users, to any number of customers, using the Unlimited Distribution Runtime license. The users can also create their own reports if you allow them too.

Hopefully someone else will be able to confirm this, but that is my understanding.

    Alan

      Gaby,
      This thread answers your question.

Richard says no limits on number of users

        Re: Unlimited Distribution Licence

        Alan, Gaby,
Keyword to look for is "concurrent" users. You can have a thousand or more users using an unlimited runtime but only one user at a time can have the same database open unless you have a multiuser license...obviously this only comes into play when there is a network/workstation scenario. If I'm incorrect in this, it means the runtime has changed significantly in regard to this (concurrent users). I really doubt that it has.

But I would hate to see this thread expand to yet another huge, multi-page discussion....please do a search for additional threads as there are more concerning the present runtimes.
        Mike

          Re: Unlimited Distribution Licence

          Mike,
What you've described is the current 1-user license.
A5 licenses are already concurrent users, so a 1-user runtime license would allow you unlimited distributions, but only for up to 1 concurrent user.
The new Unlimited Distribution is unlimited distributions for unlimited concurrent users.

and yes, when the Unlimited Distributation was announced, it made the old user packs not really obsolete, but not needed if you are going to be selling to customers that have more than 5 concurrent users.

            Mike,
The unlimited distribution license is just that, Unlimited in all aspects, including concurrent users. The user count is stated as Unlimited (unless you throttle it back to what, you the developer, wants). So Yes. the licensing HAS significantly changed. It is a GREAT deal if you have lot of users and/or are distributing apps. It is stated pretty clearly by Richard in the thread Alan posted above. Searching about runtimes/run engine licensing will probably bring up a bunch of old, outdated info. They have made this so simple, even I can understand it.

              Re: Unlimited Distribution Licence

              Hi Everyone,

Just to clarify this for everyone.

The Unlimited Distribution Run Engine License is truly unlimited in every aspect.
You can have an unlimited number of applications, deployed to an unlimited number of sites, with an unlimited number of users (concurrent or not). There is literally no limitation on this license.

              Also:
You DO have the ability to throttle the user count so that you can limit the number of users.
You DO have the ability to have your users create their own reports/letters/labels.
You DO have the ability to have your users utilize the "Active Link" functionality to connect to SQL data sources as this is built on the Run Engine model.

Not to many "Don'ts" in there... :)
So is this a good deal...ABSOLUTELEY!

              Thanks
