Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help File out of date?

Maybe its something I have done wrong, but I have been looking in the help file for help on the new super controls and it doesn't show anything?

When I pressed the Whats new link in the Contents tab on the Alpha Five help file it says whats new in version 8 not version 9???

Does anyone else with V9 Platinum get this?

If not what have I done wrong?

Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Re: Help File out of date?

Download the latest help file from the web site & set your help source to Local to use the help file. There is a whats new in V9 section which has some info on the Supercontrols. Or try setting it to local help, you may already have the current help file.

Re: Help File out of date?

I had V8 on this computer before installing V9 I wonder if it has left the old help file on for some reason?

Can anyone else confirm if they are getting a similar result or not?

      Thanks for any responses.

I sometimes can't find the What's New in V9 section either, try this link: http://support.alphasoftware.com/Wha...V9/NewInV9.htm

Re: Help File out of date?

I am seeing what I described above. a different help file than you have or are using. try opening the help file in the a5v9 folder and see if it is the v9 version or you need to download a newer version from the website (also described above) When you download the help file make sure it is in the a5v9 program folder.

            Bill,

I downloaded the newest version from the web and copied it into my a5v9 folder, the old version of the helpfile was 10mb approx. the new ver is 50mb approx. however for some reason the help file doesn't work at all now!

Re: Help File out of date?

For anyone having the same problem, once you download the help file and copied it to the a5v9 directory right click on the help icon and select properties and down at the bottom click unblock. It now should work!

Re: Help File out of date?

Well this is interesting, it is now working. However the links are still a bit misleading! There isn't a main link for Whats new in V9 like there is for whats new in V8. Why would V9 users want to know whats new in V8??

If I start help (local help selected as source), click the contents tab, click whats new - it then displays a link saying whats new in V8, however if I leave the whats new link selected in the right hand panel it says Alpha Five Help - Alpha Five Version 9 and right at the bottom of this list is whats new in V9!

Found it at last - phew.....
