Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Another help file question

I have updated my helpfile to the latest one on the download site, however I am having a weird problem with it and would like to know if I am doing something wrong with it.

    See Helpfile1.jpg

I select functions A-E expecting to see a list of functions but all I get is the first function.

    See Helpfile2.jpg

How do I look throught the rest of the functions?

I have similar problems if I follow any of the other links - any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Is anyone else getting the same problem?

    Re: Another help file question

Alistair, the latest help file for A5 V9 is March 18 2008 and yours according to your screen shot is Alpha 5 V8 March 18 2008. This should not matter as far as viewing the help file goes but I would download the latest version and try that.

I notice the web help is dated February 22 2007 for V9.

        Re: Another help file question

The help files are partially screwed up. I reported many over a year ago. Try this:

        Tab: Contents.
Path: Help >> References :Xbasic Functions Listed By Type >> Table Functions and Methods

Gee, it takes you to RTF Functions and Methods.

Others too, as you have discovered.

          Re: Another help file question

Thanks everyone for your replies! I thought it was me but it seems other people are having problems also.

McBrown - I didn't notice the screenshot said version 8 but your are right, however I had upgraded the helpfile to the latest versions available on the web??? I just opened the help file again to check and now it reads version 9, however the date is still the same as you stated above???

Mike - Yes I am rapidly coming to the same conclusion, I am finding parts of these help files very hard to use - didn't you get the problems you reported resolved?

              Hi Mike,

              I tried your suggestion:

              Tab: Contents.
Path: Help >> References :Xbasic Functions Listed By Type >> Table Functions and Methods

Gee, it takes you to RTF Functions and Methods.
However, I don't know if I did it different to you or if the new version is different to yours, but I get a table in the right hand pane of the help screen (see picture) perhaps they resolved your problem?

                Alastair,
One step left to go. Now select 'Table Functions and Methods' (See pic)

                    No,
I get RTF Functions and methods. This is from the Web as a source.

                      Mike,

It looks like the new help file may solve the problem you have then, but it still has a lot of problems. I downloaded the larger file with pictures included.

I would think the one on the web is the newest one. No??

                          Re: Another help file question

Are you using the one that you download from the web, or the one that is web based?

The help file I am using is the large one (latest version) that I downloaded and installed to run from the local pc - it doesn't seem to have the problem that you are indicating.

Both are the same for me. The example I posted was a screen shot from using the one that is on the alpha website (menu: Help-> Help Source = WEB).

Very strange! The screenshot shown below was from the latest version available as a download from the web, and it works for me even on my very slow works PC.
