Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Here is a workaround - while it does not grey out the next button if the last name is not filled in - it will give you a message if the first name and the last name fields are not filled in - it won't allow you to leave that page until the two fields are filled in - not nice but it works

    I am attaching the code here to show the changes (in red) but am also attaching the export txt file so that you can load it into the code editor and not have to retype it

    FWIW

    Code:

    Hi Finian and Andy,

    Finian, the function only seems to make the buttons conditional depending which page you are on. I'm trying to add the extra condition if there is a value in the field.

    Here is function
    function set_flags as c (vars as p)
    with vars
    if page = max_pages
    flag_finish = .t.
    flag_next = .f.
    flag_finish = .t.
    flag_previous = .t.
    else if page = 1 then
    flag_next = .t.
    flag_previous = .f.
    flag_finish = .f.
    else if page = 2 .and. fname ="" then
    flag_next = .F.
    flag_previous = .T.
    flag_finish = .f.

    else
    flag_next = .t.
    flag_previous = .t.
    flag_finish = .f.
    end if
    end with
    end function
    I put in the bolded section. This keeps the user on page 2 until the Fname gets a value. That is what I was hoping would happen. The Next button still remains greyed out even if there is a value in the Fname.

    How do you set the Next to .T. after some text has been entered into First Name (fname)?

    Andy:

    The "work" is being done in the Set_Flags() function which sets the various "flag_" logical variables to true or false.

    If you look at the xdialog button code you will see that each has "?flag_previous", "?Flag_next" component in the button code. These make the buttons "conditional" depending on the value of the flag_ variables.

    Hi KeIth,

    So I guess your real question is, how do you keep a button greyed out when no value has been entered into a field?
    No thats not the question I asked, If you look at the code there is a function as below, what I cannot figor out is how the genie_stay is set to .t.

    Andy

    function show_page as c (vars as p, page as n )
    with vars
    if genie_stay = .f. then
    temp_code = eval("page_"+page)
    evaluate_template(temp_code)
    set_flags(vl)
    else
    ui_msg_box("Error",error_message,UI_STOP_SYMBOL)
    end if
    end with
    end function

    Hi Andy,

    I have looked at Lesson 17, I cant see where the Next is set to be greyed out unless the Name fields are filled. The Finish button only becomes available when you get to the page that asks for Age.

    So I guess your real question is, how do you keep a button greyed out when no value has been entered into a field?

    I will have a look through the other samples and see if I can find the answer.

    Had a quick look, have a look at Lesson 4, Disabling Controls.

    Hi All,

    I have been Working with the Learning Xdialog that ships with A5.

    In lesson 17 there is the Creating a genie dialog box,

    The code does not work as intended, It is not meant to move on to the next page if a field is not filled it, I would like to implement this feature on a dialog box that I have built, can anybody tell why it does not work.
