Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    XDialoge Vertical Scroll Bar

    Hello,

    Does anyone know how to get rid of the vertical scroll bar of a multi-line text box in xdialog? In looking at the help file it looks like you need to add the v directive to get the scroll bar, but it puts it on automatically when you use the m directive.

    Maybe there is more then one question here, but what I want is a text box with a width of 50 and a row height of 5, with no word wrap and now scroll bar. When you hit enter 5 times, I want it to advance on to the next field; only except 5 lines.

    Like this without the scroll bar and only except 5 lines...

    Code:
    ui_dlg_box("Word-Wrapped Text Boxes",<<%dlg%
    {region}
    {wrap=50}
    This text box accepts the Enter key. When you press Enter, you advance to a new line.;
    [%M%.50,5text];
    {endregion};
    {region}
    <*15&OK> <15&Cancel>
    {endregion}
    %dlg% )
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Dan

    Re: XDialoge Vertical Scroll Bar

    I'm guessing you're not getting many responses because it's not clear what you are trying to accomplish.

    First the easy part - to stop the word wrapping, just remove the {wrap=50} command. Any text beyond 50 characters (+/-) will just go "off the dialog" to the right. (The 50 characters is only an approximation with proportional fonts.)
    EDIT: Forget the {wrap} command. That doesn't affect the text inside the box. It only affects the 'descriptive' text outside the box. According to my test, the example you provided already does not wrap lines. An example of what you are using as "text" would be helpful.

    Now the hard part....

    Are you trying to show ONLY the first 5 lines and the user can't see any other lines no matter what s/he does? That should be possible.

    Or, are you trying to display only 5 lines at a time but allow the user to "scroll" down to the rest by hitting the Enter key? That may not be possible without the scroll bar.

      Thanks Cal for the reply.

      Are you trying to show ONLY the first 5 lines and the user can't see any other lines no matter what s/he does? That should be possible.
      Yes, and the user wouldn't be able to enter more then 5 lines. What I want is a text box with a width of 50 and a row height of 5. So when you enter the box, and hit enter 5 times, I want it to advance on to the next field; only except 5 lines.

      The example that I gave (of the text box) is what I want, except without the scroll bar and only excepting 5 lines.

      Hope this helps.

        Re: XDialoge Vertical Scroll Bar

        I thought you were using this to display/select something. If you are using this as in input box, I don't think it's going to work very well without a lot of checking via xbasic. There will also be a problem with using the Enter key and an xdialog. (I could be wrong. If someone else knows a better way, please jump in here.)

        I'd suggest something with 5 separate fields and limiting each field to 50 characters.

        If you use an xdialog, I believe it will require xbasic to limit them to 50 characters. Even if the box width only shows 50 characters, I'm pretty sure the user can type more. Besides, a box width of "50" is based on a "standard" width so the "proportional font" issue mentioned above is still a factor.

        If you really need to do that and each line is separate/unrelated, I think I'd use a regular form with 5 fields. Those can be limited to 50 characters and the Enter key will move the user from one field to the next. The "fields" could even be based on a variable rather than an actual field.

        If the real desire is to allow the user to type a paragraph of up to 250 characters, then it could be done with xdialog and just a little xbasic or with a regular form. So, again, more clarification on the ultimate purpose would be helpful. A realistic example would be even better.
