Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    uninstall runtime

    Hi

it seems that the runtime does not have an uninstall option and according to my test system a simple install modifys 1600 entries in the registry!

Is there a way to uninstall ? or do I have to use a third party software such as astrum?

    thanks

    Ian

    Re: uninstall runtime

Ian, I see on my computer in the Windows Control Panel Alpha5 Runtime has its own entry and can be removed just by running this option - see attached. Try this method as the preferred option before attempting anything else. Astrum (Wise?) won't help. A manual deletion is also possible - delete the Runtime application folders and corresponding registry keys - but you have to know your way around.

      Re: uninstall runtime

      Ian,
If what you are asking is when you have created an install for a specific runtime application using Alpha's install maker, then I believe you are correct that an actual uninstall is not created. Astrum and Install Creator (I use this) will create the uninstall for you for an application if wanted when you first create the install routine. So think you do have the correct assessment.

I have a hard time with the ..."1600 entries"... part---I don't think there are that many even for the full development copy of Alpha, much less for your application--maybe you have installed it many times??? Regardless, a good registry cleanup tool will help you out when such does happen to aid in the removal of defunct entries once the folders and such are deleted as Brett has suggested.

        Re: uninstall runtime

        Hi

thanks , I was talking about the final installation of the application built using the run time.

As to the 1600 entries I use a test system which has a freah install of xp on it every time, so there are no registry entries for any programs other than the basic install of XP.

I took a copy ofthe reg files before and after installing my application. A compare of the files showed 1600 alterations!

Anyway off to download the trials of astrum and install maker

        thanks

          Re: uninstall runtime

          Ian,
I take back my statement regarding my thoughts on the number of entries :o

With your verification and then finding that Alpha doubles the registry entries by placing the same in HKEY_USERS and HKEY_CURRENT_USER your numbers make sense....I originally only looked in the former for entries.

If you have any questions on either Astrum or Install Creator, many have been answered in detail on the board already, especially in regard to Astrum (much of what is said is loosely applicable to Install Creator also).

            Hi

the number of entries is to say the least staggering! did I here cries of "bring back dos?"

I'm experimenting with both programs at the moment and it will be interesting to see how clean the uninstall is

            cheers
