Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Current Record

When creating a button to print a report, in the filter list, there used to be an option, "Print current record". It is no longer there.

Why was it removed and why should tasks as common as this not be available le w/o writing a bunch of code? Or, is this a bug?

Maybe I can't see the forest thru the trees. I've spent the last 2 hours searching.

    Thanks,

kenn, Action Scripting is the ticket. Do a bit of poking around there and you'll find a couple of easy ways to do it without any coding.

      Ken

You will only get the option to print the current record if the form that the button is on has an association withe report that you are printing - in other words you have a button on job master form. You have no reports set up with job master as the table you will not get the choice of printing the current record - if you button calls a report to print that is based on job master then you will see the choice to print current record -

To see if you will be able to print current record - while designing the script say using AS, you would select print (reports, forms etc) then the genie will come up showing the reports that have an association with the form that your button is on - to see if there is an association just check the box under the drop down list of report "show only layouts for the current table or set" - if there is an association it will still be in the upper drop down list - if there is no associations, the list will be empty.

      I hope that is clear.

Edit: I like Tom C's response - as usual it is concise and to the point.

        Re: Print Current Record

        Hello Tom & Tom,

I've always used AS to set up the button to print reports. My database has evolved to a point to where I needed to the table and set structures were modified. This automatically duplicated many forms and reports so to avoind confusion, I deleted many of them which were based on tables I no longer used. In that process, I removed the report from the wrong set because when I followed Tom Baker's advice, the report wasn't there. Once I copied the report, walla.

I also used matching the values in the fields in 2 tables (set) option which also worked. I'm not sure why I found a matching field because there is only one field in the child table on which the report is filtered. In other words, the field is not in the parent table. I'm not going to try to figure it out CUZ it works.

OK Mr Cone, I can once again walk on water and I'll be happy to share the technique w/anyone who would like to learn.

There is now a pathway thru the trees. Thanks for the responses.
