Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Coding Dates and Display problem

    Any help would be appreciated. (Those who know me also know I try and avoid coding if I possibley can - this time I'm stumped!)

    I have 12 months data, with a record of the number of complaints recieved in each month.
    As the months go by, I need to drop the first month in the series, and add an empty one.
    So,
    Jan Feb Mar Apr etc.
    1 2 2 9

    Becomes
    Feb Mar Apr May etc.
    2 2 9 0

    I need to display a whole 12 months, from the current month backwards, and do a "rollover" on the first day of the next, new month, dropping the first month and creating a new month.
    I also need a total of the last 12 months data.

    I've worked out how to manage the movement of values within the 12 periods by copying/deleting/appending, but tieing the periods into the Months to be displayed - which has to be a Named month not just a number - has me stumped.
    Any guidance would be welcome.

    I need to display
    Display where?

    Alpha has several functions you will need to use. One will keep the months in order

    ? month(date())
    = 11

    The other will display the month's name.

    ? cmonth(date())
    = "November"

    You can add months with a function named, oddly enough, addmonths()

    ? month(addmonths(date(),1))
    = 12
    ? cmonth(addmonths(date(),1))
    = "DecembeR

    You can subtract using the same function with negative numbers.

    ? month(addmonths(date(),-1))
    = 10
    ? cmonth(addmonths(date(),-1))
    = "October"
    There can be only one.

      A star as always! Thanks Stan.
      I'll work with the suggestions and post the code when I get it to work.

      Next problem I have is how to disable a button, which opens another form, if the value of a field is "Yes".

      I've tried conditional actions in OnFetch as a form event and get a small question mark to the left of the action but no further explanation!

      Any ideas?

            Ted,
            I made an example of generating a summary of 12 months worth of complaints somewhat as you described. I don't think this is exactly what you want, but it might help. I don't work much manipulating dates, and it was a good evening exercise.

              Mike, I've downloaded and will have a "butchers hook" (rhyming slang for Look in the UK) after dinner.
              Stan set me off on a really simple way to display the months in question using CMONTH() and ADDMONTH(-1) etc which work well.
              I need to code the data to roll over automatically at the end of the month, so I'll need to also code a startup script to do it.
              Ho Hum, I wanted to be an astronaut - not a coder!

                Mike, this is far in excess of what I thought of - it's great!
                I'll use the framework to keep the data rather than roll it over and drop the oldest numbers. Many, many thanks for the effort.

                  Mike, where would I put the code to only display the complaints about a particular site?
                  The function works fine, but picks up ALL the complaints. Is it possible to filter out anything but the current Site ID?

                    Ted,
                    attached is an update. I added site and site_id to the example and highlighted the region in the past_year_sum() code where the filter is and where the variable for the site_id will come into play.

                    Beware:
                    This example and the past will not work with the latest buggy patch. See
