Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Appending records from tableB to tableC while in FormA(tableA)

I would appreciate help appending certain records, possibly a simple plan.

Scenario: From forma(tableA) must have a button to activate the transfer of a few records from tableB to tableC.
Table B have among all the fields 2 of which, one matches the first option of field_1 in FormA(tableA) and one field that matches the second option of field_1 in FormA(tableA).
to append the records the criteria is based on field_1 & field_2 from FormA(tableA)
Field_1 is contains one of those 2 choices and field_2 is yes/no

I need to append records in tableB to TableC but only those that matches the option of field_1 AND only when field_2 = NO in FormaA(tableA).
Also I need, After record appending, modify field_2 in Forma(TableA) to Yes.

In other programs I would create 2 identical procedures to make the appending of records, basing each one on the choice of the value of field_1 in FormA(tableA)
Then create a procedure to select which procedure to run with value of FormA(tableA)
Both procedure will append records in tableC Plus I would have global variables from FormA(tableA) to fill other pertinent data required into TableC. and modify FormA(tableA) field_2 to "Yes".

In ALpha I see in "operations" how to create an operation to append records. Question is how to introduce the values from FormA(tableA) into the process.

Sorry for the lengthy explanation and question

    Mike

Look at the operation for appending B to C and then how to call it from form A..

For instance if you create a button on form A and use action scripting to call the operation, you can apply a selection filter to the operation in the call of the operation.

If that isn't enough, then you may need to look at a set involving table A in the operation to append to table C.

Given the generalities of what you've described, that's the best I can do...

JUst after I post the thread, I start working with operations. You are right the button will have the filter. That is where I am now.
      Thanks.

You can refer to objects on open forms, outside the form such as in an operation, by referencing the objects explicitly.

To refer to the pay_method field's value on the invoice form (in AlphaSports), you use the syntax

        :invoice.pay_method.value
        There can be only one.

Ok I have gone so far, I did create 2 OPERATIONS that will append records.
I create a button in the main form.
          On events onpush
          I create these actions
I create 2 actions to add values to 2 global variables.
          also I added 2 actions
1 run procedure 1 with conditions based on the fields in the main form
2 run procedure 2 with conditions based on the same field.
(in other words, only one will run)
Question Now that globals exist, how I can add the value of those globals variables to those operations created earlier?

Those appending operations gave a choice to fill each field, next to it, is the expression column. When you open the expression builder I believe this the area to add the global values ) How is it done?

With the expression builder open you should be able to select, on the left

            Field Names
            Field Values
            Function
            Calculated Field
            Variable
            System Field
            Library Entry
            There can be only one.

Why don't you use functions instead of operations. If you create a function with some arguments then you will be able to work without global variables.
On your main form you can just call function (one or if you want two different for two operations) with proper arguments - what and where to write.
Just a thought - ignore if useless....
