Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to calculate the sum of values from another related table.

I have seen in Alpha sports how to calculate the total of itemssold based on a set.

I see how the expression builder uses the available fieldsfrom the set ecause
the invoice header forms was based on a set.
I did not base my invoice form over a set but in the invoice form.
    Is it too late?
Is there a way to add the option to sum the extended totals from itemssold to the total of the invoice form?
Is there a formula or a way to copy a set between invoice and itemssold into the Invoice?

Create the set, right click the form(based on the table, copy to the set.

The delete the original form based on the table.

You should have the control panel in detail view mode to see the name of the forms and the name of the table/set that it is based on...

WOW,WOW it works, That was power and control.

I did exactly as you recommend, at first when I type the formula: total(itemssold->itemdld) it gave me the total of all the itemsold for the table.
I saw that aphasport had an additional command in the line: GRP->invoice_header).
I add that section to my formula: GRP->invoice. Then it gave me the values I wanted.
      Thank you very much !!!!!!
One small detail, the GRP-> where is it? Or how can I invoke it?
It was not visual in the expression options.
Are there more of this commands and where to find them?

I also see that alphasport uses a lot of calculated fields rather than store them.
      Is it better?
By not storing those calculations, then every time I create a report, I have to recreate the formula?
      Any opinions.

Have you not found the help files?

        Total()

You can use a previous report as a starting point for a new report (save as) and all your formulas will be available.
        There can be only one.

Re: How to calculate the sum of values from another related table.

I will try to use prior reports. It will speed programming.
In refererence to GRP, I saw in the help files. What I did not see, and fail to read the low gray area below for options in the expressiion building as you enter total(), as we type the expressions. I was only looking at the insert options only.
I am still wondering all the options in alpha and how to invoke them.
          Thanks.

Are you speaking of auto-complete when typing a function?
